Mum almost didn’t want to leave.

Something cold and wet grazed my neck. I swiped it away, and paused when I realized it was a tear.

Why the hell was I crying?

“I need a minute,” I mumbled as I stood and left.

Killed Adam and his boys.

Killed the cop.

Killed Kurtis.

Assaulted and almost killed Jasper. Twice.

Assaulted and erased so many names from the world I’ll never know.

I read the list I’d scrawled across my wall, like it was a psalm, feeling a little satisfied.

I grabbed my bag and descended the stairs, meeting Veronica by the mirror as she painted her mouth crimson.

“Where did you say you were going again?” She asked before she pressed her lips together.

“To see a doctor.” It was half of the truth.

“Oh. That’s very necessary. Thank God it’s Sunday. You don’t have to drag yourself to work.”

I started toward the door.

“Rali,” she called gently and I turned.

“Are you okay, honey?”

I summoned a smile that barely made it past my lips. “See you later, Ver.”

Stepping outside, I was hoping to get some fresh air. Instead, I found something that made me choke.

Right on my doorstep was a small box wrapped with a green ribbon forming a bow.

I looked around. Of course, there was never going to be any sign of him.

Hesitantly, I reached for the box and unraveled it. In it was a good bracelet with my name ‘Zerali‘ inscribed on it in green.

I furrowed my brows, something shifting in my chest. Something I didn’t like.

It was beautiful–that fact I couldn’t deny. And I hated that it was coming from him.
