You Looked Down on Me Once, Now You Look Up. novel Chapter 114

When they handed the guy over to the director, there was a brief exchange—just a few words, nothing more. Someone came over, pushing the director in his wheelchair, and wheeled him inside.

Not far away, Jackson sat in the driver’s seat, one hand lazily draped over the steering wheel. He watched it all go down, pulled the lollipop from his mouth, and scoffed, “What an idiot.”

“And he actually thinks he’s got what it takes to blackmail someone. Please.”

The next morning.

Patricia woke up still half-asleep, hugging her blanket as she sat on the edge of the bed, rubbing her temples. Just as she was about to throw off the covers and get up, the bedroom door opened. Oliver walked in wearing white shorts and a T-shirt, fresh from the gym, his skin still damp with sweat.

Honestly, everything about him—his face, his vibe, that body—was ridiculously attractive.

How much older was he than her again?

Patricia tried to remember.

“Awake?” His voice was rough and a little husky, with a hint of a question.

“Mm-hmm!” she answered, nodding.

Oliver walked over and poured her a glass of warm water. “Here, drink this.”

“Thank you.” She took the glass, then, without thinking, blurted out, “Mr. Padilla, how old are you?”

“Thirty-two. I’m six years older than you. Why do you ask?”

Patricia’s cheeks went pink. She ducked her head and took a quick sip. “No reason. You just seem really healthy.”

He glanced at her, amused. “Healthy, huh? I wouldn’t say I’m that healthy.”

“How so?”

He stepped into the walk-in closet to grab some clothes, then looked back at her, eyes glinting with mischief. “A real healthy life needs balance, you know—a little bit of everything.”

Patricia’s ears burned. She got what he meant, loud and clear.

Was he hinting they hadn’t acted like a real married couple yet?

Oh god.

After she finished getting ready, Patricia went downstairs. In the dining room, Colton and the other two kids sat perfectly straight at the table, all three of them staring at her like she was an exhibit at the zoo.
