Kelly turned the envelope over in her hands, curiosity flickering in her eyes. Only after she tore it open did she realize—it was an invitation.

Last time, the Newtons hadn’t even been invited by the Martins. Now, out of nowhere, the Martins were sending them a formal invite.

What was Tina thinking? Wasn’t it obvious the Newtons wanted nothing to do with them? Or was she just pretending not to notice?

Howard came down the stairs and spotted Kelly sitting on the couch, lost in thought as she stared at the deep blue invitation. “What’s that?”

Kelly handed it over, letting out a helpless sigh. “Tina sent this. It’s an invitation to the Martin Group’s celebration party.”

“They got something to celebrate?”

Kelly gave a short laugh. “Oh, it’s big. Ruby shot to fame overnight. She’s basically a celebrity now.”

She filled him in on the basics about Ruby’s sudden rise, while Howard grabbed his phone and quickly searched up the news.

“No wonder Martin Group’s stock has been skyrocketing,” he said.

With a win like that, throwing a party and using it as an excuse to network made perfect sense.

Kelly pressed her lips together, irritation bubbling up at the mention of the Martins. Three years ago, Patricia had left the Newtons in shambles. Now, the Martins were acting all friendly, sending them invitations like nothing happened.

It was almost insulting.

“We should go,” Howard said.

Kelly blinked, caught off guard. “What did you say?”

“I said we should go,” Howard repeated. “We can’t just cut the Martins off forever. The more friends you have, the more options you get. The more enemies, the more ways things can go wrong.”
