You Looked Down on Me Once, Now You Look Up. novel Chapter 157

Patricia didn’t wake up until nine-thirty the next morning.

She’d completely slept through her alarm, and when she finally cracked her eyes open, her phone was lighting up nonstop on the nightstand. Aurora’s name kept flashing.

“Thank God, Mr. Martin, you finally answered! The meeting is at ten—where are you?”

“When did you tell me about this?” Patricia’s voice was still thick with sleep.

“Just now,” Aurora said, glancing at her watch. It was only nine-thirty, and with the morning rush over, traffic wasn’t even an issue. Patricia could leave right now and still make it, easy.

But Ruby had already made it clear this meeting was basically set up just to mess with Patricia.

Patricia glanced at the time, then let out a cold laugh. “Go ahead. Start without me.”

Aurora was stunned. Was Patricia really going to just skip out like that? Wasn’t she basically handing Ruby ammunition on a silver platter? Wasn’t this exactly what Ruby wanted?

“Mr. Martin, aren’t you playing right into someone’s hands?” she warned.

“Don’t worry. She won’t be able to run that meeting.” Patricia hung up, not interested in arguing. If Ruby wanted drama, she’d just have to give her something better to do.

She scrolled through her contacts and dialed Jackson. “Send those photos to Ruby’s email. Tell her to meet at the Seaview Café at ten.”

“Will do,” Jackson replied without missing a beat.

Those years Patricia spent overseas hadn’t been for nothing.

Ruby’s time as a student in Toronto had been… colorful, to put it mildly. Only Theo ever believed her stories about struggling abroad.

At nine-thirty, Ruby had just finished giving instructions and was heading upstairs to find Emerson when her inbox pinged.

She clicked open the new email and nearly dropped her phone—a half-naked photo stared back at her, followed by an address:

“27 Seaview Road.”

Ruby’s legs went weak. She snatched up her bag and bolted out the door.

“Cancel the meeting,” she shouted to her secretary as she left.

Back at home, Patricia struggled to sit up after hanging up the phone. She tried to stand, but her legs buckled and she collapsed onto the floor.

“What’s wrong?”
