You Looked Down on Me Once, Now You Look Up. novel Chapter 162

“I really think Ms. Martin is the right fit.”

“Totally, I agree!”

...

“What is her deal? Does she think she’s so amazing that I should just be grateful for her crumbs? Am I some charity case now? Do I need her to ‘help’ with promotions like I can’t handle it myself?”

Ruby sat in Tina’s office, so angry that tears kept sliding down her face.

Tina tried to calm her down, but it was obvious she was frustrated too. “Honestly, you let Patricia get way too close. She got her hands on the product plans, and you even let her waltz into the meeting room with that flash drive.”

“I don’t even know what to say about that.”

If this had happened under Tina’s watch, Patricia probably wouldn’t even make it through the front door, let alone leave in one piece.

But Ruby was still young and way too soft-hearted.

Tina took a deep breath and sipped her water. “Fine, cry in front of me if you have to, but don’t let your dad see you like this.”

“I know,” Ruby muttered. She’d already noticed how Emerson’s face had gone stone cold today.

When Ruby got back to the office, Aurora was making the rounds with coffee.

All forty-two people in the department—no one missed.

Whether they wanted it or not, Aurora was determined to hand it out. How else could she show off?

“Look at you guys—everyone’s looking exhausted. Ms. Martin had me order coffee for everyone, so drink up and get a little boost. And hey, let our team help carry some of the weight for once, alright?”

“As long as your stomachs feel better, just don’t let your hearts freeze over.”

Aurora’s words were as chilly as an AC unit in December, leaving the whole room feeling a little colder.

Once she finished, she slapped the receipt down in front of Patricia. “Reimburse me. Thirteen hundred.”

Patricia frowned. “I told you I’m not paying. Why are you making me do this?”

Aurora just grinned. “Trust me, it’s worth every cent. In a minute, Ruby’s going to come back here and totally lose it. Isn’t that worth thirteen hundred? Think about it—you just bought yourself two weeks of peace.”

Patricia couldn’t help but laugh and nodded. “Fair point.”
