The background was just the Newton Enterprises logo, and the account only had one post—a shot of someone standing on a rooftop, back to the camera. It was obviously Theo.

"Take a screenshot and send it to me," Patricia said, her smile growing sly. She couldn’t help but wonder how Nina would react if she saw this.

That night, at eleven, Ruby drove home. Emerson was still awake. As soon as she walked in, he called her over.

"The company’s stock has been climbing fast these past few days. You’ve played a big part in that," he said. "If the numbers still look this good by the next board meeting, you’re probably getting a promotion."

"Really?" Ruby’s face lit up. Did this mean she could finally get away from Patricia’s control?

"When have I ever lied to you?" Emerson said, clearly pleased. Ruby was ambitious and hardworking—coming home this late after a livestream proved it.

Early in the morning, Patricia sat against her headboard in a silk camisole, scrolling the news on her tablet. Her name—Patricia Martin—was trending everywhere in bold letters.

Mr. Padilla came upstairs after his morning run and caught Patricia staring at her screen, completely lost in thought. She didn’t notice him until he walked over and gently took the tablet from her hand, glancing at the screen.
