That bitch.
How dare she!
It was almost midnight when Ruby finally fell asleep, fresh from her nightly routine. Upstairs, Tina was bone-tired as she made her way downstairs. The second she entered the living room, she noticed a package sitting on the coffee table.
“What’s that?”
“No clue. They said it was for Miss, so I signed for it. Didn’t open it.”
Tina picked up the box and shook it. Something inside rattled. Suspicious, she grabbed a tool and cut it open. Inside was a flash drive. She frowned, turning it over in her hand. She wanted to know what was on it, but there was no way she’d risk her own phone.
She called the housekeeper over. “Bring me your phone.”
The moment she plugged in the drive, a video popped up on the screen. Joseph was there, hauling Ruby up and tossing her right into a ravine…
Wait—this couldn’t be…
…
Outside, Patricia was flicking a maple leaf between her fingers, lost in thought. Sara followed behind, rattling off everything she’d noticed the past few days.
“Aunt Patricia, are you sure Tina’s really going to take care of Joseph herself?”
“Of course.”
“But most rich families don’t air their dirty laundry out in public.”
Patricia twirled the leaf, her voice light. “You said it yourself—those are the old-money types.”
“Tina and Emerson? They’re not even new money. Hardly count as rich.”
The more Ruby suffered, the more Tina just wanted blood. Sending Joseph over was just a way to throw her to the wolves, let Tina vent on someone else for a while. Once she’d dealt with Kelly, she’d turn around and finish things with Emerson and Tina.
Patricia let the leaf fall and headed inside with Sara.
The moment they walked in, Johns was carrying a bowl of hangover soup up the stairs.
“Ma’am, you’re back? Sir overdid it with the drinks tonight.”
He handed her the bowl. “Want to take this up for him? I’ll have the kitchen whip up some warm congee.”
