Even though Tyson hadn't told him a thing, how could Jared not figure it out from the way things looked right now?
"She's not your sister? I thought… Aren't you two siblings?"
"No." Tyson's voice was so raw it was barely above a whisper. "Celia was adopted by my family. There's no blood relation between us."
"But… But I thought you and Winona—no, Miss Thorne—" Jared stammered, struggling to find the right words.
So Tyson and Celia had been involved, and that's why Winona broke up with him?
But now Celia was pregnant. Clearly, things between them were a lot messier than Jared had imagined.
Tyson pressed his fingers to his brow, massaging away the headache threatening to split his skull.
If only he'd cut things off completely with Celia after he started dating Winona. Would everything be different now?
He'd never doubted Winona's feelings for him—even if she'd kept her identity as Miss Thorne a secret, he was sure she'd had her reasons. He'd seen the way she cared for him, the way she'd looked out for everyone around him. But now, how had she ended up standing beside another man?
"What are you going to do now?" Jared asked, rubbing his own temples, feeling the beginnings of a migraine. "Maybe you should just head back to Seastone City."
"No," Tyson said, his hands curling into fists. "I have to find a way to see Nona—face to face."
And then what? Jared thought bitterly. Celia's carrying your child. Does he really think Winona will just take him back?
"Well… good luck with that," Jared said, forcing a smile. "I've got some things to take care of, so I'll just… head out."
