A Vow of Deception, A Vow of Revenge novel Chapter 27

Winona could only laugh in disbelief. "And what exactly do I owe you an explanation for?"

Tyson shoved his phone toward her. "See for yourself."

She glanced at the screen, her brows drawing together—not because she felt guilty, but because being secretly photographed was just plain irritating.

Honestly, there was nothing between her and Elvis. And even if she were involved with another man, Tyson was the last person on earth qualified to judge her.

"Elvis went out of his way to humiliate me last night. Made me drink all that wine, and you—of all people—you're cozying up to him?" Tyson's fists clenched, his eyes reddening at the corners. "Nona, when did you stop caring about my feelings?"

Celia, never one to miss a chance to stir the pot, piped up from the side. "Miss Thorne, I get it—Mr. Rogers is handsome, and he is the heir to the Rogers family fortune. But still, don't you think you're embarrassing Ty just a little too much?"

Winona shot her a cold look. "Clearly your wrist isn't bothering you much, Miss Goodwin. You seem awfully lively."

"You—"

Celia wanted to snap back, but she was feeling guilty. The "wound" on her wrist was just a shallow cut—barely more than a scratch—and she was making a whole spectacle of it. In truth, she felt just fine.

But with Winona throwing it in her face, she didn't even know how to respond.

"Don't change the subject," Tyson barked, suddenly shoving his chair back and standing. "What's going on between you and Elvis?"

"Mr. Rogers saved my life," Winona cut him off. "He put himself at risk when it mattered."

This morning, Celia hadn't even been that close to them.

The runaway truck had been barreling straight toward Winona—not Celia. There was no way it could have hit Celia.

And yet Tyson's first instinct had been to rush to Celia's side.

Winona had nothing left to say about that. She'd already seen through Tyson's true colors. Her heart had given up on him long ago.

But for him to stand here and question her? The nerve.

A mocking smile tugged at Winona's lips. "While you were so busy protecting your precious little sister, it was Mr. Rogers who risked his own life to save me. Tell me, Tyson—am I supposed to keep my distance from the man who saved me just to spare your feelings?"

The guilt flickered across Tyson's face, but he quickly tried to defend himself. "Celia was hurt, that's why I went to her first. But it's not like I wanted anything to happen to you. You seemed fine—I thought you'd be able to get out of the way."

"Exactly." Celia chimed in. "You could've dodged, Miss Thorne, if you'd reacted a bit quicker. It's not Ty's fault you froze up."

Winona turned sharply to glare at Celia, her eyes cold as ice. Celia flinched and shrank back.

"Did you know I was in a car accident two years ago, Miss Goodwin?"

Celia stiffened, her voice suddenly shrill. "How would I know that?"
