A Vow of Deception, A Vow of Revenge novel Chapter 31

After Simone's coughing finally eased, she squeezed Celia's hand.

"I just worry about you… Oh, sweetheart."

She let out a heavy sigh, as if there was more she wanted to say, but held back.

Celia looked uneasy, about to speak again, but Simone had already gotten up.

"All right, I'll go make dinner."

"Oh, Mom, let the housekeeper do it. Why do you have to cook yourself?"

Simone gave a gentle smile. "The housekeeper's food just isn't the same, is it? Your brother and his wife love my roast ribs."

"Hmph, those two are out having some romantic dinner tonight. Why go to all that trouble?" Celia grumbled, her face sour.

"I just called your brother. He said they'd be home soon and probably haven't eaten much. Either way, there's always room for a few ribs."

With that, Simone bustled off to the kitchen.

By the time Winona and Tyson returned, the house was filled with the warm, savory aroma of home-cooked food.

"Mom," Tyson called as he walked in.

Simone, wearing her apron, stepped out of the kitchen, beaming at them. "You're back! Go wash your hands, I made your favorite—braised ribs."

"Aunt Simone…" Winona's eyes shimmered with emotion as she looked at her.

To her, Simone was the last bit of warmth left in the Goodwin family.

"Oh, honey, why are you still calling me ‘Aunt'? Isn't it time to start calling me ‘Mom'?" Simone's voice overflowed with affection.

Winona opened her mouth, but the word just wouldn't come out.

Simone still thought she and Tyson were really married.
