A Vow of Deception, A Vow of Revenge novel Chapter 69

Elvis stepped out of the car, and the driver hurried after him.

"Mr. Rogers, do you need to pick up something? Let me take care of it for you."

"That won't be necessary."

Elvis brushed off the offer and headed straight toward the pharmacy.

A few minutes later, he returned holding a tube of ointment in his hand.

Winona's gaze fell on the ointment, and suddenly she realized what it was for. She glanced down at the red marks still visible on her wrist.

Once back in the car, Elvis handed the ointment to her.

"Thank you," Winona said as she accepted it.

Truthfully, it wasn't that serious.

But it was a kindness from Elvis.

He didn't say anything more, and the driver slid behind the wheel and started the car again.

They stopped outside the townhouse where Winona was staying.

Maybe it was the stress from dealing with Tyson earlier, but Winona felt a little dizzy, as if she might be getting carsick.

Elvis got out first and walked around to open her door. As she stepped out, the night air swept in, carrying the scent of cherry blossoms. Winona misjudged the curb and lost her balance, but Elvis caught her around the waist.

"Careful." His hand was warm even through the thin fabric of her shirt. The heat startled her, and she instinctively drew back, mumbling thanks.

Elvis's hand froze in midair for a moment, then he withdrew it with practiced nonchalance, though the feel of her lingered on his fingertips.

"Don't forget to use the ointment." His tone brooked no argument as he glanced at the red marks on her wrist.

"Okay, I will." Winona looked down at the ointment, then met his eyes. "Mr. Rogers, really… thank you for tonight."

"You don't need to thank me."

He seemed about to reach out again, but thought better of it. "Go on inside. I'll wait here until you're in."
