Chapter 133 Mr. Steele’s Panic
Chloe didn’t notice Brian’s unusual expression and said, “Yes, that’s my brother. We don’t look very alike, right? I take after my father, and he takes after my mother.”
Brian pursed his lips together. His gaze seemed to darken as it landed on the tall, refined man.
He’d long known that Daniel was missing and that Chloe had always been searching for him. He’d even ordered his men to investigate Daniel’s whereabouts, but this was his first time seeing a photo of Daniel.
If the man in the photo was Daniel, then…
Casey reappeared at that moment. “Are you ready to order?”
Only then did Chloe shift her gaze back to the menu. She said to Brian, “Take a look at the menu and see if there’s anything you’d like to eat.”
However, Brian didn’t answer her. His eyes remained fixed on the photo on the wall.
“Brian?” Chloe raised her voice slightly.
Only then did Brian snap out of it. “What?”
“What’s going on? You look a little pale. Are you feeling unwell?” Chloe asked.
“It’s nothing. Maybe I just didn’t sleep well last night.” Brian made up an excuse and only then realized
that his palms were sweaty.
How strange. He’d never thought that there would be a day when he would have clammy palms.
“See if there’s anything you’d like to eat,” Chloe said, pushing the menu toward him.
“You should give the order. Since I’ve never eaten here, I wouldn’t know what’s good,” Brian said.
“That works too,” Chloe said, ordering some homestyle dishes she, Jenna, Walter, and Daniel used to order whenever they were there.
Casey jotted their order down and left with the menu.
“Were you and your brother very close?” Brian suddenly asked.
“Yes, we were very close,” Chloe murmured. She looked at the photo on the wall again longingly.
“This was taken five years ago. It was the last time Daniel and I ate here. We only took the photo for fun back then, but looking at it now, it might actually be the last photo I ever took with him,” Chloe said.
After that, Daniel had returned to the military and had soon been sent to the border on an assignment.
Chloe said, “He’d always protected me since I was little. When I was bullied, even though he was smaller and weaker than the other kids, he fought tooth and nail to defend me. He always said, ‘As long as I’m around, no one can ever bully my sister!“”

As she spoke, a smile appeared on her lips, but her eyes grew misty. “Tell me, isn’t he a wonderful brother?

Brian licked at his dry lips. “Yes, he really sounds like a good brother.”
“When I find him, I’ll definitely Introduce you to him.” Chloe blinked hard, trying to force back the tears that were threatening to fall.
She would find Daniel.
Brian lowered his gaze, not daring to let her see the turmoil on his face. There were some things he needed to confirm. If Daniel really was the man he’d once met, then….
At that moment, Casey began bringing out the dishes one after another.
“Let’s eat first,” Chloe said.
“Alright,” Brian responded, lowering his head down and eating quietly.
As Chloe ate, she chatted with him about her family. When she spoke about Daniel, her tone and expressions made it clear just how much he meant to her.
Throughout the whole meal, Brian felt as if he were chewing wax. He couldn’t even remember what the food tasted like. It felt like he was just going through the motions.
Afterward, as they paid for the meal, Casey asked curiously, “Right, Chloe, what brings you here today?”
“I just came to deal with my parents‘ old house,” Chloe answered.
She’d already transferred the property in Yarfdale under her name, but the house in the town hadn’t been handled yet. She planned to settle things and put it under her name before returning to Corvessia.
“You came to do the paperwork for the demolition, then? I heard a lot of families in your neighborhood have already done it. The whole area will be demolished in a few days,” Casey said.
Chloe was stunned. “What? Demolition?”
“Yes. Didn’t you know?” Casey asked.
Chloe fell silent. She truly hadn’t known about it, nor had she received any notice. It looked like she needed to find out more about the situation.
When they stepped out of the diner, Brian asked, “Are we still heading to your parents‘ house?”
“No, let’s go to the Urban Planning Office first,” Chloe replied.
Sonya’s scandal had been fermenting for a whole day and was gaining more and more traction. Even though both the Millers and the Greens tried hard to contain the news, it wasn’t making much of a
difference.

Sonya’s parents had even rushed to Yarfdale overnight to beg the Quall family to help. The Qualls had significant influence there, and if they wanted to, they might actually be able to suppress the scandal.
