After my death, my husband who had wanted to divorce went insane. novel Chapter 19

19

Dixie panicked. No matter how much she argued, Cooper still didn’t believe her. Desperately, she tried to reason with him, softening her voice, hoping to sway him with emotion. Still, to Cooper, her voice was nothing more than an annoying buzz in his ears.

As he looked down at the lifeless child, his thoughts drifted to our wedding night. I had stood there, a shy, blushing bride, while he remained cold and distant, carrying his blanket to the study to sleep alone.

I had hinted time and again that I wanted a child, yet he met each suggestion with cold indifference. Ever since he brought Dixie back from abroad, sharing a bed with her had become his new habit.

Every time he returned home, I would have everything prepared: hangover soup, a hot bath, and warm meals. He took it all as if it were owed to him, never once offering a word of thanks.

And when Dixie handed him that falsified medical report, he had believed her without hesitation, blindly, foolishly, letting her toy with him like a puppet. In a sudden burst of rage, Cooper shoved Dixie hard.

Dixie froze. He had always shielded her, yet now he shoved her away in disgust. Her eyes ǝrimmed with tears.

But when he still didn’t respond, she dropped the act, her voice laced with scorn.

‘So what? Even if I lied, what can you do? The child’s already dead. Sabrina has already left you; ust give up.”

Cooper’s brow tightened. He turned to stare at her, tension thick in the air-until Elsie’s phone suddenly rang.

‘Hello? Yes, I’m Cooper’s mother…”

‘What? A murder case?!” Elsie stood frozen in disbelief.

Cooper didn’t understand what was happening. Before he could take the phone, the police stormed in and arrested both him and Dixie.

Outside the hospital, Kevin and I quietly watched the scene unfold.

The show’s begun. Let’s go,” he said calmly.

Kevin drove me straight to the courthouse.

Cooper was utterly confused as the police handed him the summons.

Years ago, Dixie’s husband had died a violent death. She had claimed it was an accident, but the ruth was far more sinister; she and Cooper had plotted to kill him.

Her husband’s reputation had been despicable. When he died, no one questioned it.

Now, however, a distant relative had stepped forward to seek justice. This was what Kevin had been investigating all along. He had meant to keep it buried, but Cooper and Dixie had simply gone too far.

As the one who orchestrated it all, Cooper couldn’t escape the consequences. As his accomplice, Dixie was taken in as well.

“Think Dixie will throw him under the bus to save her skin?” Kevin said with a faint smile from the gallery.

In court, the two finally confessed. Dixie even brought up the abuse she had suffered in her marriage. But once the police presented the murder weapon as solid proof, their defenses crumbled into silence.

Cooper shot a glare of hatred toward Kevin in the gallery, only to spot me sitting beside him. I sat quietly, watching them fall apart.

If not for Kevin, I would have never discovered the secret he had kept from me. He had cared far more about Dixie than he ever did about me. I gave a cold, quiet smile.

During the recess, Demi appeared. The moment she saw Dixie looking pitiful and aggrieved, a plan quickly formed in her mind.

After a brief whisper, Dixie nodded with determination. When the hearing resumed, she boldly claimed she had been coerced by Cooper, insisting she did not know about the murder. With tears streaming down her face, she looked heartbreakingly wronged.

Cooper stared at her in disbelief as she delivered her performance. Her acting was flawless, so convincing that many in the courtroom were moved to tears.

In truth, Cooper had initially only wanted to take her away. But the hatred Dixie harbored toward her husband had long burned in her eyes. That night, she used his drunkenness to force a signature on the divorce papers, all while subtly hinting at years of abuse.

Cooper had wanted to stand up for her. But Dixie had gone further; she directly proposed they stage an “accident” while her husband was drunk, to let him rest in peace.

In the end, Cooper went along with her plan. They acted in perfect sync, and the whole scheme unfolded without a flaw.
