After my death, my husband who had wanted to divorce went insane. novel Chapter 9

On the night of the incident, after the gathering ended, Tanner sensed something wasn’t right. While I was chatting with Ava and Kevin, he quietly pulled my mother aside.

“Annie, I heard from Kevin that Sabrina and Cooper are divorced and Sabrina’s already pregnant. What’s going on?” he asked with concern. Since her last hospital visit, my mother’s face had grown even paler, her complexion sicker than before.

Tanner held a small vial of special asthma medication in his hand, clearly something he had prepared just for her. After years of friendship, my mother had no reason to guard herself against him. She calmly told him everything that had happened.

‘No matter what happens to me, it doesn’t matter. I just want my daughter to be happy from now on,” my mother said softly, her gaze settling gently on me.

Tanner’s expression darkened. Usually mild and composed, a rare flicker of anger crossed his face. “Can’t you think about yourself for once? You don’t even take your illness seriously. Gater s truly a bastard.”

My mother looked at the uncharacteristically stern Tanner in surprise. She quickly took the medicine, a helpless smile tugging at her lips. “Don’t worry, Tanner. Once I take your medicine, I’l eel much better.”

After hearing what had happened to me, Ava and Kevin exchanged a glance, silent understanding passing between them. Just before we left, Tanner specifically reminded us to send a message that night to confirm we were safe.

Tanner knew Gaten’s character all too well. Back when my mother was still at the hospital, Gaten had once deliberately switched her medication with another patient’s, an “opportunity” crafted with cruel precision. If Tanner hadn’t caught it in time, the consequences could’ve been devastating.

To Gaten, achieving his goal was worth any cost. And with his daughter’s big day looming, he was bound to make a move against my mother and me.

As expected, the entire night passed without a single message of safety. The tracker Tanner had secretly placed on my mother showed erratic signals. In the quiet stillness of the night, Tanner brought his son and Ava to the Schnapp residence, silently and in secret.

n the basement, they found us, just as they’d feared. By the time they arrived, I had already ainted from the pain, and my mother’s back was still bleeding, her consciousness slipping away. Just as she was about to lose it entirely, Tanner swept her into his arms and carried her

out.

The three of them had come prepared. Without a sound, they injected the sleeping guards with anesthetic and swiftly rescued us from the darkness.

‘Sabrina, are you okay?” Ava asked, her voice trembling as she clutched my cold hand tightly, struggling to hold back tears.

Tanner, meanwhile, stared silently at my mother’s pale face, his eyes burning with a hatred he had never shown before.

At the Timberlake family’s private hospital, we were rushed into emergency care. The doctors acted immediately, beginning surgery without hesitation. Outside the operating room, the three of them stood frozen, still shaken by what could have been. If they had arrived a moment later my mother and I might never have woken up.

Ava had seen it all with her own eyes: me, bruised and bloodied, legs stained red, barely breathing as I was rushed into surgery. She could no longer hold it in. Her hands covered her face as she broke down, sobbing uncontrollably.

The three of us had been friends since childhood, and Ava and I had been classmates for over a decade. Years ago, after that terrible car accident, she had thought she’d lost me for good. She hadn’t slept for days, waiting, praying, until I finally opened my eyes.

But this time, my injuries were even worse. Looking down at her clothes, soaked with my blood Ava’s eyes burned with fury toward those who had done this.

“Why is it that Cooper and the others get to enjoy their wedding tomorrow, while Sabrina and Auntie are lying in the operating room, fighting just to survive?” Her voice trembled as she clenched her jaw. “Those idiots… they’re beyond hateful.”

“Damn, Dixie’s wedding dress is stunning,” Kevin said as he gently wiped Ava’s tears and pulle put his phone to show her Cooper’s latest social media post.

In the photo, Dixie stood radiant in her gown, hand in hand with Cooper, both smiling as i nothing else in the world mattered.

‘After all these years, I can finally fulfill the dream I had ten years ago. The right person was by my side all along.”

The comment section overflowed with praise, applauding Cooper for his so-called devotion.

“If they care that much about the wedding, then let’s add a little fuel to the fire, make it truly prosperous,” Kevin said, glancing at Ava. She caught on immediately.

Kevin and Ava had long been eager to teach Cooper a lesson. Ever since I got involved with him

had become a shadow of who I once was, no longer carefree, no longer smiling like before.

“Don’t take it too far,” Tanner said slowly. He had already seen through their intentions.

He stood outside the operating room, eyes fixed on my injured mother, and silently wiped away the tears gathering in the corner of his eyes.
