Chapter 275
The more she acted this way, the more Liam was convinced he’d guessed–right

There were hardly any people the heiress of the Pierce family couldn’t afford to offend. Even the Quinn and Guzman families weren’t people she truly had to tiptoe around–they just preferred not to start trouble, not that they couldn’t.
Only Jeffrey fit that description.
He was someone you could never quite read, mysterious yet commanding respect and authority wherever he
went.
He was Rebecca’s ex–husband. Even though they were divorced, Rebecca still had custody of their child.
It made perfect sense that he wouldn’t want Rebecca to be in the spotlight. Honestly, no man–especially one with power and influence–wants people to know he couldn’t even get custody of his own child.
The more Liam thought about it, the surer he felt.
It had to be Jeffrey.
“Got it,” Liam said, then hung up.
If it were anyone else, he could have found a way to keep them out of the mess. But Jeffrey was the kind of person even his grandpa had to be careful around. Going up against him was just fighting a losing battle.
Thinking of this, Liam went home and told Michael about what happened.
Since it involved shares, his dad definitely wouldn’t stay out of it.
Rebecca had no idea about any of this. For the rest of her vacation, she spent all her time digging into every aspect of the company–its current situation, past projects, and future plans.
The company was only working on one project right now, and it barely made any money. They’d already taken out over 100 thousand dollars in loans from the bank, and until they landed a new project, they were relying on those loans just to pay salaries and buy equipment.
While she was deep in thought, Ian showed up.
Seeing how absorbed she was, he didn’t say a word. He quietly slipped in and waited nearby.
Rebecca’s neck started to ache, so she stretched and massaged it.
When she looked up, she saw Ian lounging on the couch next to her. Her eyes widened with surprise, then lit up with joy.
Rebecca blinked, smiling, “When did you get here?”

“Just got here,” lan said, standing up.
Rebecca put down her work, flashing him a grin. “Why didn’t you let me know you were here?”
Jan came up behind her and gently kneaded her shoulders. “Didn’t want to interrupt your train of thought.”
When someone’s really wrapped up in their thoughts, the worst thing is to get interrupted.
Even a small distraction can throw them off track.
If it’s serious, all those ideas they just came up with could vanish for good.
“You really have to take care of yourself, even when you’re swamped with work,” Ian said, noticing how stiff Rebecca’s shoulders and neck felt. “If you keep pushing like this, you’ll end up with a herniated disc or a bad neck before you even finish everything you’re working on.”
“It’s just these past couple of days–I really haven’t paid attention,” Rebecca admitted honestly.
She used to exercise at least every other day. She always believed staying healthy was the key to being able to do anything.
Ian focused, massaging her shoulders with care. “Does it hurt here?” he asked.
“A little,” Rebecca replied honestly.
Ian continued, his hands gentle and attentive.
Rebecca was caught off guard by how professional he seemed. “Wow, you actually have some real massage skills!”
“Really?” Ian asked, sounding a bit surprised.
“Yeah,” Rebecca replied.
“Good,” Ian said. For the first time, he had to admit Jessica actually came in handy for something. If she hadn’t roughed him up and treated this rich boy like her personal gofer back in the day, he never would’ve ended up, with these pro massage skills.
‘Ian couldn’t help but think, if it wasn’t for all that training Jessica put him through, he wouldn’t have these magic hands now. He looked at Rebecca with genuine concern.
“Seriously, let me give you a massage every day from now on. No need to risk your health over work,” Ian offered, sounding both earnest and a bit amused.
Rebecca waved him off, a small smile on her lips. “No need to trouble you, Ian. I’ll just have Mark grab a couple of massage chairs later. After a long day, a few minutes in one of those will do the trick.”
“Trust me, no machine can beat a real massage,” Ian jumped in. “From now on, you’re getting the VIP treatment–all your massages are on me.”
Rebecca shot him a puzzled look.

She turned to look at him
Ian couldn’t help but look a little sheepish under her gaze. Huh? What is in

Rebecca had known him since they were kids–she could always tell when he was hiding something. “You’re not trying to butter me up because you need a favor, are you?”
“No way,” lan said, perhaps a bit too quickly.
“Really?” Rebecca raised an eyebrow, clearly not buying it.
“Of course it’s true!” lan replied instantly, his trademark cocky grin flashing. “Seriously, with how awesome I am, what could possibly stump me?”
“There is,” Rebecca said, her tone calm but firm.
Ian kept massaging her shoulders, trying to sound casual. “What is it?”
Rebecca thought about those playful moments between him and Jessica and made a bold guess. “Romance.”
Ian’s hands froze for a second, and he could feel his heart clench tight.
In that moment, his mind raced wildly with a hundred different thoughts.
‘Did Becky figure it out?‘ Ian wondered, anxiety bubbling up inside him.
‘What is she feeling right now? Does she like me? Maybe she hates me? Or worse–maybe she never wants to see me again?‘ he fretted.
“Looks like I hit the nail on the head,” Rebecca said, picking up on his sudden change in mood.
Ian bit his lip, eyes locked on her.
From where he was, he couldn’t see her face, so he had to guess from her voice. Nerves crept into his own as he asked, “So, how do you feel about it?”
“If you like her, confess already,” Rebecca said earnestly, hoping Ian would work up his courage. “This world moves way too fast–don’t let hesitation get in your way. Just shoot your shot and put it all out there.”
Ian couldn’t help but worry. “But what if she says no?”
“That’s okay,” Rebecca replied, her voice calm and reassuring as she thought of Jessica’s easygoing nature. “Even if she turns you down, you can still be friends. It won’t be awkward.”
Ian’s grip on her shoulders tightened, his heart pounding. “Some folks say that once you confess, everything gets awkward–you can’t even stay friends.”
“That only happens if the person who confessed isn’t interested in being friends anymore,” Rebecca said, not even realizing Ian was actually talking about her.
Ian froze, momentarily stunned.
