“Looks like you still want to solve things in court,” Amelia said over her shoulder as she walked away, looking like she might call up some lawyer friends to sue him.

Ryan gave up trying to be sneaky. He unlocked his phone and really deleted the post.

He ran after her, phone in hand, showing off his freshly cleaned feed.

Seeing this, Jeffrey started to get anxious about what was next for him. If Amelia really kept him from Rebecca, winning Rebecca over would probably be an even bigger challenge than Ryan’s struggle.

But then, another thought popped into his head.

Come to think of it, Amelia always respected Rebecca’s wishes.

As long as Rebecca was on his side and wanted to make up, nothing else really mattered.

“Let’s go over there. I’ll take some pictures of you guys,” Jeffrey said, deliberately finding an excuse to stick around without being too obvious. “The lighting and vibe are way better over there.”

Rebecca happily grabbed Samuel’s hand and led him over.

Jeffrey was a real pro behind the camera.

Whenever he took photos of Rebecca and Samuel, he always managed to capture their energy and charm perfectly. His timing and composition were spot on, making every shot look effortless.

He ended up snapping away for a long time, sometimes taking regular photos, sometimes filming little clips of them just having fun.

Ryan, still feuding with Amelia, watched the scene unfold and grew even more pissed. He shot a glare at Jeffrey, then marched right over to break up the photoshoot. “Jeffrey, we need to talk.”

“Wait,” Jeffrey said, curt and focused on his camera.

Ryan clenched his jaw. “Seriously? You want me to wait?”

Jeffrey kept silent, never taking his eyes off the lens.

Ryan opened his mouth to say more.

Jeffrey just raised a finger to his lips and gave him a pointed “shhh.”

Stanley was laughing so hard he could barely breathe. “Jeffrey’s got some guts. Who else would treat their father–in–law like that?”

“Technically, Mr. Guzman isn’t Mr. Hanson’s father–in–law,” Gregory said, keeping a straight face. “He and Ms. Jensen’s mom never got married, and there’s never been any official paternity test.”

Stanley glanced at the two of them, noticing things seemed a little less tense now, and an idea popped into his head. “Hey, you think we should try to set up Mr. Hanson and Rebecca?”

“How exactly?” Gregory looked totally lost.

“Like…” Stanley scanned the area, his eyes settling on a pool. “What if we get them both soaked in the water, then lock them together in the changing room and let them sort themselves out?”

Gregory was speechless.

Gregory gave a dry warning, “If Mr. Hanson finds out, you’re so dead.”

“Hey, I’m just trying to help him out,” Stanley protested. “He’s dragging his feet so much, it’s making everyone

anxious.”

“If you really want to help, don’t add more stress or worry,” Gregory replied–he honestly knew Jeffrey about as well as Rebecca did. “Jeffrey wouldn’t care if he ended up in the water, but if Ms. Jensen fell in, he’d totally lose it.”

“It’s winter, it’s freezing out–like barely above freezing.”

“What if Ms. Jensen catches a cold?”

Stanley scrunched up his brows, deep in thought.

‘Yeah, can’t really argue with that,‘ he admitted to himself.

‘If only it were summer…‘ Stanley sighed inwardly.

‘I could’ve set up the perfect matchmaking scheme then,‘ he grumbled.

Just as Stanley was scheming, Jack strolled over with a glass of wine, heading straight for Rebecca and Jeffrey. From across the room, he shouted, “Cousin Rebecca!”

Rebecca glanced over to see who was calling her.

Jeffrey snapped a quick photo of the moment, then lowered his camera.

Just as he was about to call Gregory over and warn him to keep everyone else away, Jack suddenly tripped and went crashing to the ground, letting out an “Ow! Damn!” from the pain.

The wine in his glass ended up spilling all over Rebecca and Jeffrey,

Just enough to soak them both–not a drop extra, not a drop missing.

“Cousin Rebecca, after putting on that kind of show for you, how are you planning to thank me?” Jack said as he clumsily got back on his feet, brushing himself off.

“Is catching the wine you just threw on me enough? Rebecca retorted, eyeing the wine stains on her light- colored coat. For what felt like the hundredth time, she thought Jack was always up to no good. “If that’s not enough, I can return the favor with another glass.”

Jack looked over and said, “Would you believe me if I said it wasn’t on purpose?”

Rebecca stayed silent, just staring at him.

Who would fake a fall in front of a room full of people?‘ she scoffed inwardly.

“I’m going to change,” Rebecca said, brushing at the stains with a frown; she couldn’t stand having anything dirty on her clothes. She turned to Jeffrey and said, “Keep Samuel company for me.”

go with you,” Jeffrey offered, totally unconcerned about the mess on his own shirt.

Rebecca shook her head. “That’s okay.”

She slipped away by herself.

Jack noticed Jeffrey staring after her, so he came over and nudged him with his elbow. “Not going to change? Your coat’s a mess too.”

Jeffrey gave him a look.

Jack just stood there, looking all casual and laid–back.

“Was that on purpose?” Jeffrey asked.

Before Jack said anything, Jeffrey had actually thought it was just an accident–the way he walked over and then tripped looked way too natural.

“No need to be too grateful,” Jack said, a sly grin tugging at his lips.

Jeffrey just stared at him, not even bothering to respond.

Jack asked, “Not going?”

Jeffrey said, “No.”

‘Rebecca really hates when people pull tricks like this,‘ he thought. ‘If I follow her now, it’ll only make her more annoyed!

Jack gave a careless shrug and smirked, “Man, you’re no fun. Honestly, I have no clue why Cousin Rebecca’s into you.”

Jeffrey couldn’t care less.

Only now did it dawn on him–Jack wasn’t nearly as simple as his files had suggested. With acting chops like that, he was clearly not someone you could underestimate.
