Chapter 327
“Are you alright?” Jeffrey strode over, unable to hide the worry in his eyes.
Rebecca was picking out a jacket she liked, looking puzzled. “Huh?”

“Stanley said Miles followed you here,” Jeffrey explained, hoping she wouldn’t misunderstand. “I’m afraid he might try something that could put you in danger.”
Rebecca blinked at him, clearly unsure what he meant.
‘Didn’t Miles leave already?‘ Rebecca thought, still confused.
Just as Rebecca was about to speak, the door to the hallway suddenly slammed shut, making her pause mid-
sentence.
Bang! Rebecca flinched at the noise.*
The bang echoed through the room.*
Furrowing his brow, Jeffrey walked over and tried the doorknob.*
Rebecca caught a quick glimpse outside and said, “That was Barry who closed the door.“*
Jeffrey froze with his hand on the doorknob, emotion flickering in his eyes as he glanced at Rebecca.
He wanted to explain himself, but hesitated, wondering if she’d actually believe him.
He couldn’t tell if Rebecca would trust what he said.
“I know you’re not behind this,” Rebecca said, confident that Jeffrey wasn’t the type for petty schemes. “They’re probably trying to play matchmaker and cooked up some plan to get us talking again.”
“So, would you be willing to give us another shot?” Jeffrey asked, seizing the moment.
Rebecca didn’t even hesitate. “No.”
Jeffrey kept his eyes on her. “Not even a little?”
Rebecca replied, “Not even a little.”
Jeffrey had expected her answer all along, but hearing it from her lips still made his feelings a tangled mess.
Under the glow of the room’s lights, Rebecca calmly picked out a jacket nearly identical in color to the last one and slipped it on, her mood perfectly steady. She said coolly, “Call them so they open the door. If we’re stuck in here much longer, Samuel’s going to get anxious.”
Jeffrey nodded.
But when he took out his phone, there was no signal.

Rebecca noticed his hesitation and asked, “What’s up?”

“Looks like they cut the signal ahead of time,” Jeffrey replied, frowning. He honestly hadn’t expected Stanley to pull a stunt like this. “No reception.”
Rebecca took out her own phone, checking the screen with a hint of frustration.
She frowned, muttering under her breath, “Nothing. No signal either.”
Meanwhile, right outside the door, Barry admired his handiwork with a satisfied grin. He was just about to call Stanley and brag about what he’d pulled off when he spotted Gregory coming this way.
Barry quickly strode over, hoping to keep Gregory from messing anything up.
“Did you see Mr. Hanson and Ms. Jensen anywhere?” Gregory asked, his face tight with worry after several failed calls.
“They’re inside,” Barry said, nodding toward the walk–in closet.
Gregory stared, totally thrown off.
Almost on autopilot, he started walking over.
Barry grabbed him, scowling hard. “Hey, what do you think you’re doing?”
Gregory answered, dead serious, “I’m here to find Mr. Hanson.”
“Mr. Hanson and Ms. Jensen need to have a private talk,” Barry cut in, hauling Gregory toward the elevator and sweeping away what little hope Jeffrey had left. “Why are you sticking your nose in? If you ruin their moment, can you handle the fallout?”
“I can’t reach Mr. Hanson,” Gregory said, making sure Barry understood how serious this was.
Barry gave him a knowing look. “Take a wild guess why.”
Gregory froze for a moment, then realization dawned on him.
He quickly typed out a message to Jeffrey: [I’m downstairs with Barry–if you need anything, just let us know.]
Barry saw the message and fake–coughed, acting like everything was perfectly normal. He knew once Jeffrey came out, he and Stanley were probably in for a good scolding, but for Rebecca and Jeffrey’s sake, he was ready to take the heat.
“What’s with that look on your face?” Gregory asked, giving Barry a puzzled glance.
Barry blinked, “Really?”
Gregory nodded, “Yeah, you look a little off.”
Barry shrugged, “Went inside without thinking and got one hell of a glare from Mr. Hanson.”

Chapter 327
Gregory caught on right away.
Just then, an idea flashed across Barry’s mind–he still had one last thing to take care of. Clutching his stomach, he made an excuse. “Hey, you know where the restroom is? My stomach’s killing me.”
“Go straight, then turn left, take another left, and finally a right,” Gregory replied, knowing the place like the back of his hand.
I’ll run over there first. You hang around and keep an eye out for Mr. Hanson,” Barry said, looking convincingly miserable as he hurried off. After finding the emergency stairwell, he bolted up to the second floor and quickly slipped the folded note into the changing room.
Just to be sure Jeffrey would find it, Barry even knocked twice on the door before taking off.
By the time Jeffrey discovered the note, Barry had already vanished.
The note read: [Ms. Jensen, Mr. Hanson, don’t worry about Samuel–we’ll take care of things on our end and make sure he doesn’t get stressed. You two just relax.]
“Just sit tight and take it easy,” Jeffrey said, crumpling the note into a ball. “I’ll find a way to get us out of here.”
If Rebecca didn’t trust him this much, everything they pulled today would look like it had his fingerprints all over it. The slammed door, the lack of signal, even that note–it just had ‘Jeffrey’s handiwork‘ written all over it, no matter how many alibis or witnesses showed up.
It all just screamed a plan straight out of his playbook.
“No need.” Rebecca replied calmly, not the least bit bothered. She already knew what game they were playing and couldn’t care less. “Someone’ll show up and let us out in a bit.”
Jeffrey shook his head. “If we wait for them, it’ll probably take more than an hour before they finally let us
out.”
Rebecca said coolly, “Don’t bother. We won’t be stuck here that long.”
Jeffrey blinked, still puzzled. “What makes you so sure?”
Rebecca glanced out at the lawn through the big windows, perfectly calm. “Trust me–Mr. Guzman’ll be the first one to come looking.”
She didn’t really want to admit it, but deep down she knew: if she and Jeffrey both vanished at the same time, Ryan would show up before anyone else. Either because he can’t stand the idea of Jeffrey hovering around me, or just because he’s worried about his ‘daughter.‘
“Yeah, I guess you’re right,” Jeffrey agreed, giving a small nod. “He really does care about
you
lot.”
Rebecca just nodded with a quiet “mm–hmm.”
She picked a seat and settled in, refusing to waste another second of her time on this mess.
They sat in silence for about five minutes before Jeffrey finally walked over and sat down across from her.
