“What are you doing here?”
The anger in Willow’s eyes was impossible to hide the moment she saw Beasley. Her voice was icy, sharp as glass.
The man felt an unexpected ache in his chest at her cold stare; he swallowed hard. “I was worried about you, so I—”
“Worried about me?” Willow cut him off with a mocking laugh. “Don’t bother.”
“You almost got drugged at the bar tonight! Of course I’m worried!” he insisted, anxiety edging into his voice. “But don’t worry—I won’t let those guys get away with it!”
Won’t let them get away with it? What, did he plan to silence them himself?
That sounded precisely like something he’d do.
Willow’s eyes narrowed coldly. “Good dogs don’t block the way.”
With that, she brushed past him, yanked open the car door, and slid into the driver’s seat.
But Beasley, never one to take a hint, quickly circled around and jumped into the passenger seat just as she was settling in.
“Get out,” Willow snapped.
“Where are you going? I’ll come with you.” Beasley could tell something was off with her, and there was no way he’d leave her alone tonight.
The officers at the precinct had told him those college kids hadn’t just slipped Willow a sedative—they’d added something far worse.
And the ringleader? One of Willow’s father’s students. Now Willow had shown up at her father’s apartment complex, and just as he arrived, she was about to leave again.
That couldn’t be coincidence.
Something must’ve happened to Klein, too.
“Did something happen to your dad?” Beasley asked bluntly. “Tell me—maybe I can help.”
Willow stared at him for a long moment, her expression unreadable.
She’d traced her father’s last location to a luxury hotel owned by Windsor & Co.
Now Beasley had shown up, chasing after her. What exactly was he after?
She decided to play it cool.
Maybe she could use him, at least until she found her father.
Without a word, she buckled her seatbelt, started the car, and headed for the hotel.
Twenty minutes later, even without her saying a word, Beasley had already figured out where they were going.
Of all places, it was one of his family’s hotels.
