After that, Giselle asked Tony for a detailed update on Zachary's condition. He explained that the craniotomy had gone smoothly, and Zachary was fully awake, with no risk of brain damage, coma, or paralysis. Although some of his internal organs had sustained serious injuries, none of the damage was critical or irreversible.
All things considered, Zachary had been seriously hurt, but also incredibly lucky. As long as he maintained a healthy mindset and cooperated fully with his treatment, he was expected to make a near-complete recovery within six months.
Leaving Tony's office, Giselle stepped outside and took a deep breath of fresh air. For the first time in days, the tightness in her chest began to ease. A wave of relief washed over her. It felt as though the heavens had granted her another chance, and for the first time in a long while, she saw a glimmer of hope for the future.
She had wanted to go straight to the ICU to see Zachary. But considering he had just regained consciousness and was still in a fragile state—both physically and emotionally—and knowing he likely still harbored resentment toward her, she hesitated. Besides, the Kanes would never allow her near him.
In the end, she gave up on the idea. She decided to wait until he was transferred to a general ward before visiting.
Just then, she caught sight of Donovan exiting the ICU and heading toward the parking lot. He drove off alone.
She figured he must be relieved too. So she made up her mind to talk to him. After all, she wasn't the only one responsible for what had happened. If there was fallout to face, they should face it together.
An hour later, Donovan arrived at the office, and Giselle followed close behind.
She made her way to the CEO's office without hesitation. When she pushed the door open, he had just settled into his chair, leaning back with his eyes half-closed, lost in thought.
When he looked up and saw her, a flicker of surprise crossed his face.
Giselle had come with a heart full of joy at Zachary's recovery. She didn't overthink it. After closing the door, she walked straight to him and wrapped her arms around his neck like she used to. Her voice was light, almost cheerful.
