"Don't come looking for me again. Once Zach's condition stabilizes, you should be with him officially. Just make sure he recovers fully—back to how he was before."
Donovan said it calmly, as if he were making a reasonable request.
Giselle stared at his back, wide-eyed, struggling to process what she had just heard. For a moment, she thought he had to be joking. "Donovan, what are you saying?"
"Don't you get it?"
He spun around, his sharp gaze locking on hers with a flash of raw emotion she'd rarely seen.
"It's over between us. Go and comfort him. You went to all that trouble trying to force me to cancel the engagement with the Holt family. Well, fine—I'll do it. If you can get Zach back to how he was, I'll make sure you two get married. That way, you'll finally get your wish of joining the Kane family."
The intensity of his glare and the sting of his words sent a cold shock through Giselle. It was like ice seeped into her bones, from her scalp down to the soles of her feet. She could only stare at him in stunned silence.
"You're saying you're giving me to another man?" Her voice cracked with bitterness, her lips twisting into a fragile smile. "So, in your eyes, our relationship meant nothing? You're willing to pass me off like some object, just to keep your family intact?"
"When was there ever a relationship?" he sneered, laughing coldly. Then he said something even crueler. "What, did you really think that just because you kept crawling into my bed with all your petty little games and shameless tricks, I'd actually start to feel something for you?"
It felt like the blood in her veins froze.
His gaze remained cold, his tone turning even more cutting. "Let's be honest. You were good in bed, sure. I couldn't get enough of you for a while. But that's all it was—just sex. I played along because it satisfied me. Now I'm tired of it. Since you're so good at manipulating men, go take care of him instead. Get him better, and I'll give you all the money you want."
