After returning home, Giselle spent the next two days like a walking corpse. She smoked and drank herself into a stupor, remained completely unresponsive even when her dog barked at her out of hunger. She just didn't care.
On the third day, she finally called Vivienne to come over. When Vivienne arrived, she was horrified. Giselle was disheveled and hollow-eyed, looking like she had completely lost her grip on reality.
Vivienne first fed the dog and cleaned up a little before sitting down and asking, "What the hell happened to you? Don't tell me you're heartbroken."
Giselle was silent for a long while before finally telling Vivienne about the pregnancy. She wanted Vivienne to come with her to the hospital for an abortion.
Vivienne was stunned. After the initial shock wore off, she tried to talk her out of it. "Why are you being so impulsive? This could actually be a good thing. I mean, seriously. No matter what, having his baby gives you leverage!
"Even if the Kane family doesn't accept you, that baby is still their blood. They won't turn it away. When the time comes, you'll rise in status as the mother of their heir. You'll have a foothold. And honestly? Dealing with that bitch Renee would be a piece of cake."
Giselle just lay on the couch, eyes blank, staring up at the ceiling. She seemed completely disconnected from reality, lost in her own dark world, like she couldn't even hear Vivienne speaking.
Vivienne kept going. "And don't forget what the doctor said—if you lose this baby, you might never be able to get pregnant again. That's serious. Not being able to have kids is a far cry from choosing not to.
"I mean, yeah, I'm scared of giving birth too. But the idea of never having the option? That's terrifying. Look, maybe just keep the baby. Worst-case scenario, we raise it together. We'll stay single for life, raise the kid as a team, and screw the rest of the world—"
"Stop talking." Giselle cut in coldly, shutting down Vivienne's naive attempt at comfort.
She sounded hollow, her voice raspy from exhaustion. "The appointment is already booked. I just need you to come with me. Don't say another word."
Vivienne was stunned. She had never seen Giselle this calm and resolute.
