Donovan stared at Giselle intently, studying every part of her face. She still looked the same, but the spirit in her eyes and expression was completely different.
Since their last break, it seemed like she'd gotten rid of the last shred of feelings for him. She no longer loved or loathed him—all she felt for him was indifference, like he was just a stranger.
From the start, she had clung to him relentlessly. She schemed, threatened, seduced, and used every trick to bind him to her. But now, that game was truly over.
She'd withdrawn all passion, returning peace and freedom to him. Yet, he was unsettled by it.
Donovan's gaze was fixated on Giselle. As he searched for a trace of emotion on her face to no avail, his breathing grew labored. Step by step, he closed in on her—until he was almost on her.
Suddenly, he grabbed her chin and leaned in to kiss her. Just as his lips touched hers, she jerked back, as if she'd been electrocuted.
A hard slap landed on his cheek.
"Leave. Now," she said evenly as she held his gaze.
Feeling the burning sting on his cheek, Donovan froze for a moment. His suppressed, complicated emotions suddenly overwhelmed him, and he cupped her cheeks and kissed her again with unmatched fervor.
Giselle struggled frantically, trying to break free. But the more she resisted, the angrier he became. He was determined to overpower her and prove nothing had changed.
Eventually, he roughly pinned her down on the couch.
"Fuck off!" she screamed, kicking and pushing him with all her might.
