Breaking Mr. Cold (Giselle and Donovan) novel Chapter 143

By the time Giselle reached home, showered, and climbed into bed, it was well past 8:00 pm. Her mind kept replaying everything that had happened at the mountain resort earlier that day.

Giselle thought of the fight between Donovan and Gideon and felt nothing but numb. Still, her thoughts wouldn't settle. She tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep.

Close to 10:00 pm, she heard her dog burst into the bedroom, barking nonstop at her. This usually meant it had noticed something unusual in the house and was attempting to alert her.

Giselle had no choice but to switch on the light, get dressed, and head out of her bedroom. When she reached the living room, she noticed the lights were on.

As she wondered what was going on, her dog ran over, bit the hem of her shirt, and wagged its tail while pulling her toward the door. Looking up, she noticed that her front door was wide open, and the motion-activated light by the entrance was on. Under the light stood a tall figure.

Giselle thought someone dangerous had broken into her house. Hence, with a pounding heart, she approached the door and found a man leaning against the wall near the entrance, smoking silently like some ghost. It was Donovan.

Her breath hitched when she spotted him. His head was wrapped in a bandage, his handsome face covered in bruises, and his complexion pale and worn out, as if he'd just been chased and forced to take refuge here.

Giselle hastily regained her composure. Without saying a word, she tried to shut the door in his face.
