Even if his relationship with Ethan was close, like that of a pair of father and son for all these years, Gideon didn't know much about the Kanes. He wasn't interested in knowing more, and he didn't need to do so either.
"Uncle Ethan," Gideon called out as he pushed the door to the chairman's office open. He didn't care if Ethan was in the midst of a discussion with two senior executives. He went straight to the point and declared, "I need to talk to you about something very important."
Ethan wrapped up his work conversation quickly and got the others to leave. Then, he turned and spoke sternly to Gideon. "I told you. If there's anything you need, I'll come over to your place, or I'll meet you at your office. You're not to come to me. What is it now?"
"I need to meet the CEO of your company, who is also your brother. His name is Donovan, right?" Gideon answered.
Ethan was speechless. His face darkened as he heard Gideon's request. "Why do you want to meet with him? What could you want with him? Don't stir up trouble now!"
"I wouldn't have done this if it weren't for something else, Uncle Ethan, but today…" Gideon paused and seemed to be a little uncomfortable about what he was about to say.
"Forget it." he exclaimed. "Please just tell me where Donovan is right now. I need to have a word with him."
Gideon knew clearly that even if Ethan, his adoptive father, was usually very strict with him, he silently doted on him very much. Ethan held him in a very high regard and would always agree to his requests unconditionally.
"No." Ethan's rejection was firm and stern. "If there's really anything important, I'll settle it for you."
Just as Gideon was about to pester Ethan further, the office door swung open with a push as Donovan entered.
Donovan was initially here to talk to Ethan about a drug development project they were working on with Swestan. He didn't expect to have caught sight of another person in the room, lest a man with a familiar face.
"You're here just in time." After meeting Donovan's eyes briefly, Gideon went up to him assertively, exuding a more formidable air, and announced, "So, I see that you're Donovan. I'm here just so I could meet with you today."
