"Don't rush. He's not going to die," Gideon said, stopping Giselle. "Take care of yourself first."
"No." Giselle pulled out the IV and pressed a cotton pad to her skin. Then, she got out of bed and hurried out of the room.
Gideon had no choice but to follow. He steadied her as she walked because she was still weak. "Slow down. A few minutes won't make a difference."
"Which room is he in?" Giselle asked.
Seeing how anxious she was, Gideon took her to the emergency ward.
The door opened, and visitors were allowed in.
Gideon let Giselle go in while he stayed by the door. He watched her from a distance with his arms crossed.
When Giselle reached Donovan's bedside, he was already awake and was propped against the headboard with an IV in his arm. His eyes were half-open, and he looked a little less pale.
She stood there silently, not knowing what to say, just staring at him.
Sensing her presence, Donovan opened his eyes fully and met her gaze.
The moment their eyes met, they felt a sudden sense of overwhelm. It was as if they had come back from the edge of death. They simply looked at each other without saying anything.
Back in that cold storage, she thought she had lost him forever. Seeing him alive again now, the anger and pain between them suddenly seemed insignificant.
