Upon hearing this, Giselle's head started to spin. Then, she quietly left the office.
She leaned on the handrail in the hallway and thought about Donovan. The latter was still lying unconscious in the ED-ICU, and there was no telling if he'd ever wake up from his coma.
Once the thought crossed her mind, she instantly began to tear up. She felt incredibly depressed.
In the cold storage room, Donovan took off all of his clothes and draped them on her body instead. On top of that, he even used his own body heat to keep her warm. If he hadn't done all of that, he wouldn't have suffered a cardiac arrest or become critically ill after developing meningitis.
Gideon quietly caught up to her. He reached out to pat her shoulder before he said in a low voice, "Stop beating yourself up. It's not your fault that his health was relatively poor in the first place."
Giselle didn't feel like talking.
Afterward, she thought about other things that'd happened in the past. Once, Donovan got in a fight with Gideon and suffered a heavy blow to his head. On a separate occasion, she smashed a vase on his head and shut him outside the door without even checking on him.
The head injuries he'd suffered in the past might've triggered his current brain condition. Upon thinking about this, Giselle felt even more guilty and remorseful.
Her chest tightened. She couldn't bring herself to picture the worst-case scenario.
A couple of hours later, Gideon left to tend to an urgent matter at his company.
Giselle was sitting in a corner all by herself. She couldn't bring herself to eat anything for lunch or dinner. In fact, she was so worried about Donovan that she didn't feel hungry at all. She'd never felt more anxious and tense in her entire life.
