Breaking Mr. Cold (Giselle and Donovan) novel Chapter 248

In the end, the overseer didn't lay a hand on Giselle. He simply called for his men to come in and remove the corpse of the customer he had just shot.

From his conversation with the others, Giselle pieced together the reason behind the sudden killing. The dead man had been holding incriminating evidence against the overseer, using it to blackmail his way into free access to the women there. Worse still, he had murdered two women the overseer had purchased at a high price, causing him significant losses.

The overseer's patience had run out that day, and he'd put a bullet in the customer.

Giselle stared at the pool of blood for a long while, dumbfounded.

The man on the ground had it coming. Here, violence was nothing more than one wolf tearing into another. Aside from the first jolt of fear, she felt little else.

When she absentmindedly lifted her gaze, she found the man who had just killed someone staring at her intently. The viciousness she had seen in his eyes a few days ago was no longer there.

Giselle thought he was about to force himself on her again. She was ready to stop fighting it. At this point, being violated was almost part of her daily routine.

"What's your name?" he asked in Valanthean, wiping down the barrel of his gun with a handkerchief.

Giselle paused for a few seconds before blurting out a random name. "Nora Holt."

"Nora?" For once, his cold, hard expression softened. "That's quite a nice name."

As soon as his words fell, he closed in on her, studying her with deliberate focus. When he caught sight of her pale skin peeking through her freshly torn clothes, desire stirred within him. He reached out, gripping her chin and forcing her to look at him.
