Donovan had never cared much about Giselle's resistance and mockery, but after he heard those words, something inside him snapped.
"Gideon outclasses me?" he asked in a low, heavy voice.
In his eyes, he had always looked down on Gideon. He considered him nothing more than an insignificant little pretty boy who only had the nerve to act arrogant because of Ethan's backing—a sleazy scoundrel at heart.
Donovan disdained the very idea of comparing himself to him, as doing so would only cheapen himself… Yet here Giselle was, telling him that this second-rate pretty boy had somehow outclassed him.
Seeing how rattled he was, Giselle sharpened her taunts. "That's right. He's younger, gentler, and more considerate than you. He's also more loyal, too. Oh, and let's not forget, he's even a centimeter taller. Everything you have, he has. And everything you lack? He's got that too.
"He doesn't yank my hair or slap me, humiliate me with cruel words, and come with a whole circus of toxic relatives. His eyes are only on me, and he goes out of his way just to make me happy. With him, every day is a joy. So tell me, Donovan, what exactly do you have that can compare?"
Hearing that, Donovan's face turned a sickly green. He was momentarily left speechless.
Giselle, however, only grew more detached and icy as she continued. "Donovan, let me make one thing perfectly clear. I have never felt any love for you, not even a shred. In the beginning, I slept with you for money. Later, when I pursued you, it was only to use you as a tool against the Kanes.
"And in the end? I realized you couldn't give me what I wanted, so I found a better replacement. Why would I waste another second on you? That's the truth of whatever this was between us."
