The helicopter landed on a private island at dawn. The roar of the rotors died down, replaced by the sound of waves crashing against the rocks.

Vincent carried Sophia off the aircraft. The moment her feet touched the ground, she shoved him away.

Sophia was unmoved. “I want to go back upp”

“Sophia, let’s start over,” Vincent said, hugging her from behind. He rested his chin on her head, his voice low and raspy. “As if none of it ever happened.”

But there was no going back.
