Claire froze for a moment, then burst into tears.
“Garrett, I just wanted to help celebrate auntie’s birthday. I don’t know why Nora is targeting me like this…”
She threw herself into Garrett’s arms.
Garrett frantically checked the injuries on her face, then screamed at me in fury.
“Nora, how can you be so vicious?”
“Those candles were still on the cake! Don’t you know pulling a stunt like that could hurt Claire?”
I sneered. “She deserves it.”
She was the one who came to provoke me, mocking and ridiculing right in front of my mom’s grave.
“Claire’s still your sister, no matter what. She just blew out a candle–she didn’t do anything wrong. Don’t be so petty.”
I repeated coldly, “Get out.”
“Garrett…”
Claire clung to Garrett’s arm, seemingly innocently acting cute, but their bodies kept brushing against each other.
Anyone with eyes could see something was off, and Garrett was clearly enjoying it.
“Look how ungrateful sis is being. I just wanted to help celebrate auntie’s memorial. Did I do something wrong again? It’s all my fault…”
My voice was terrifyingly calm.
“My mom didn’t give me a sister.”
Claire was the adopted daughter my family took in–a complete ingrate.
Hearing this, her eyes immediately filled with tears again.
“I know Nora has never accepted me, but even so, you can’t just give me the cold shoulder every time you see me, right?”
I looked up coldly. Maybe my gaze was too icy–Claire swallowed the rest of her words.
She hid behind Garrett like a delicate little bird.
“Garrett, it’s all my fault…”
“GET OUT!”
I closed my eyes. My patience was completely exhausted.
“Since the beginning of time, no killer has been stupid enough to act cocky in front of their victim. Claire, are you testing me, or do you have a death wish?”
“Nora!”
Garrett couldn’t take it anymore and cut me off. “Watch your language. I told you, that car accident was just that–an accident.”
“Claire’s so timid and kind, she wouldn’t even step on an ant. How could she hurt your mom?”

Chapter 3
I laughed bitterly. “An accident?”
“Then how do you think that venomous snake got into my mom’s trunk?”
Back then I’d clearly checked the surveillance footage and dash cam recordings.
It was obviously Claire who bought a poisonous snake at high price and hid it in my mom’s trunk in the middle of the night
But when I presented the evidence in court, it mysteriously got deleted–even the backups were gone,
“Nora, your mom’s already dead. What’s the point of making a scene like this now?”
“Women like you aren’t cute at all. What the hell are you trying to prove?”
Claire wiped away her tears pitifully, then got a speaker from the car and started playing cheerful music.
“I know Nora must be mad at me for making that mistake at the funeral.”
“I’m here to apologize now.”
On my mom’s memorial day, she was playing “Today is a Good Day.” I was furious, my stomach pain getting worse.
“Do you want to die?” I said through gritted teeth.
“What does Nora want me to do to forgive me? Should I kneel down and apologize…”
Claire pretended to kneel down.
Before her knees could bend, Garrett helped her up.
“You didn’t do anything wrong. You don’t need to apologize to her.”
Then Garrett crouched down on one knee and pulled out a ring.
“Claire, even the jewelry master said this was rare material. I spent 20 million having it reforged. This one–of–a–kind gift is perfect for you.”
My eyes stung instantly.
Even though the ring’s appearance had changed, I recognized it immediately–it was made from my mother’s belongings.
