“I talked to a lawyer. Once the month–long divorce cooling–off period is up, I’ll be free.”
“When I was young, I was too confused, too stupid. Thought that was love.”
“But when I really got deep into it, I realized I’d just jumped into someone else’s trap.”
Felix listened quietly to everything I said, then nodded.
“Nora, this case will have a result soon.”
“Once everything’s settled, let’s move abroad after we get married, okay?”
I agreed immediately. “Okay.”
Then Felix threw himself into the busy litigation process.
Being the powerhouse he was, through his connections he managed to recover all the surveillance footage and dash cam recordings that had been deleted.
By the time this case went to court, Felix had our victory locked down.
But the opposing lawyer was smooth–talking, always finding loopholes. Just then, a witness appeared.
It was Garrett.
He looked like his life force had been drained–haggard beyond recognition.
“I can testify too.”
“Claire is the murderer. She had intent to kill.”
He also confessed and admitted his crimes.
When my mom was killed, he wasn’t at the scene.
But after learning the truth, he helped Claire hide evidence.
The judge asked him sternly why he did it.
“Nora was your wife then. Why would you side with an outsider?”
“And you issued a settlement without Miss Reed’s consent!”

Garrett gave a bitter, self–mocking smile.
“I was blind back then.”
“People only think what they can’t have is good.”
“I admit I had an emotional affair during my marriage, fell for my wife’s adopted sister. Claire saw this and
used her body to seduce me.”
“That night… I gave in and made a mistake.”
“But now I know you can’t keep going down that path, because it’s too easy and you can never come back.”
Garrett confessed with regret and told the whole truth.
Claire was sentenced to 20 years for intentional murder.
The day she lost the lawsuit, she threatened suicide.
Garrett, as an accomplice, got ten years in prison.
The day he was taken to jail, his face was covered in red rashes. They said it was AIDS that had spread
throughout his body.
“Nora, I’m sorry! I was wrong!”
“I was controlled by my demons. I couldn’t see who truly cared about me and hurt you so much…”
“If there’s a next life, I’ll make it up to you!”
Looking at his tear–filled, emotional eyes, I just felt sick to my stomach.
“No need for a next life.”
“If you want to make it up to me, you can die right now.”
With that, I turned and left.
Talk about “next life” was too empty and meaningless. Besides, even if there really was a next life, I wouldn’t
want to meet someone like Garrett ever again.
After the month–long divorce cooling–off period ended, I got my divorce certificate as wished.
Felix prepared a grand wedding for me.
He’d been single all these years, wanting to marry me for so long. But I was stubborn, obsessed with that
