Bradley wasn’t the only one who’d asked her that question—Mr. Nathan Harrington had as well.
Charlotte never gave either of them a direct answer.
After that livestream ended, Jordan was arrested and sent to prison for theft.
Meanwhile, the name “Lottie” became even more respected throughout the entire Heston research community.
Charlotte sat quietly in her private office. Darren had just brewed her a cup of hot tea himself before settling beside her, his strong arm wrapped firmly around her waist, drawing her close against him.
Suddenly, Charlotte’s gaze lingered on her computer screen, her brow faintly furrowing.
The login page for a game was spinning endlessly, refusing to load.
“It still won’t let me in,” she said in a flat tone, more an observation than a complaint.
But Darren immediately pulled out his phone and, without hesitation, called his executive assistant.
“Find out who owns this game’s servers. Invest eight million in upgrading their infrastructure. And get their engineers to set up a dedicated access channel for my wife’s account. I don’t care how busy it gets—she never waits in line.”
His assistant, by now long accustomed to his boss’s eccentric demands, answered without missing a beat. “Understood, Mr. Harrington.”
Charlotte shot him a sidelong glance. “You’re being ridiculous.”
Darren set his phone aside, grinning with unrestrained pride. “If there’s anything I can do to make life easier for the woman I love—even the smallest thing—it’s my privilege as a man.”
Charlotte just smiled and let it go.
An hour later, her account slipped into the game without a single hiccup.
She started playing a new character, though, and her inexperience showed—she failed the same dungeon several times in a row.
Her face stayed blank, but the air around her grew noticeably chillier.
Darren, handling emails on his laptop nearby, noticed right away.
He set his computer aside and slid her keyboard and mouse over to himself, confidence radiating off him. “Let me get you through this level.”
“Okay.”
Charlotte watched in silence as he deftly maneuvered through the quest.
Soon enough, he breezed through the dungeon.
