Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 122

The CFO sounded exhausted on the other end. “Ms. Lincoln, you should really ask Mr. Lincoln about this. We just work here. Whatever the higher-ups say, we follow.”

Of course. Her ever-reliable father.

Emmy ended the call, crossed to the floor-to-ceiling windows, and stared down at the endless stream of cars below. Without a second thought, she dialed Cooper.

It rang and rang before he finally picked up. His voice was dripping with sarcasm.

“Well, look who remembers she has a father. I figured you ran off with your pretty boy and forgot your own last name. What’s wrong, can’t afford to keep that freeloading firefighter anymore?”

Emmy almost laughed.

A man who’d gotten everything by marrying into his wife’s family really didn’t have the right to call anyone else a freeloader.

She forced down her anger and kept her voice cool. “Why hasn’t Forward Tech paid its employees? Vista just kicked off our partnership. This is the worst possible time for this. Are you trying to tear the company apart?”

Cooper’s tone switched to fake concern.

“Emmy, you’re blaming me for nothing. It’s the board—they’re changing strategy, moving resources to subsidiaries with more potential.”

“Forward Tech’s been losing money for years, the accounts are a mess. Even with the Vista deal, it’s not enough. I’m planning to move you over to the new company, CoreTech. Just take the Vista project with you.”

Emmy let out a short, cold laugh.

“Come on, Dad. The board only does what you say.”

“I’m only going to say this once more—if you don’t want our family drama all over the place, fix this right now. Keep Forward Tech going and pay everyone on time.”

There was a beat of silence. Then Cooper exploded.

“I haven’t even started with you! You went and secretly married a firefighter—do you have no shame?”

“Is this what your mother taught you? To embarrass the family like this?”

Emmy’s voice was ice.

“When Mom married you, you weren’t even as good as a firefighter. At least they risk their lives for others. You just used your grades to marry up.”
