Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 163

Half an hour later, hope finally showed up.

The surgeon walked out of the operating room, looking genuinely relieved. “We got two thousand milliliters of blood, and even more plasma as backup,” he announced.

He glanced at the group of fit young firefighters waiting nearby, clearly impressed. “You guys are amazing. The quality of your plasma—top notch. Almost every test came back perfect.”

Dean stepped forward, giving Emmy a look. “Don’t forget, I donated blood too.”

The doctor checked his clipboard, then gave Dean an awkward smile. “Mr. Sparrow, your plasma didn’t meet the requirements. We had to discard it according to regulations.”

He looked up, a little sympathetic. “Maybe try getting more sleep, cut back on smoking and drinking, okay?”

The firefighters around them burst out laughing. Some were even leaning on each other, cracking up at Dean’s expense.

Dean’s face went bright red. He glared at Emmy. “I still gave blood, alright?”

Emmy finally met his eyes, her gaze icy cold. The look she gave him was so full of hatred, Dean actually felt a chill run down his spine.

She didn’t bother arguing. Instead, she turned to the doctor. “Doctor, how’s my mom? Is she going to make it?”

The doctor’s tone softened. “Your mother’s luck turned around. Dr. Hall—the famous surgeon—just happened to arrive and took over the operation. Her chances jumped from thirty percent to at least eighty.”

Tears welled up in Emmy’s eyes. She could barely get the words out. “Thank you, doctor. Thank you so much.”

Dean’s face grew even darker, but he didn’t say another word. He just turned and stalked away.

Emmy’s whole body was still trembling as fear and relief crashed over her, draining every bit of strength she had left.

James didn’t say anything. He just put his arm gently around her shoulders and led her to a bench, letting her sit down.

Once Emmy was settled, James walked over to the firefighters, who were still buzzing with excitement and laughing among themselves.

He went back to his usual serious self, lowering his voice. “You guys can head back. But, on your way, I’ve got a favor to ask.”

He leaned in and quietly told Will and the others what he needed.
