Emmy just stared, completely thrown off by how bold he was being.
For a second, she couldn’t even form a reply.
James didn’t wait for her to answer. He walked right over to the dresser, pulled open the little drawer next to the closet, and there it was: a neat row of her underwear—ivory, mint green, soft pink—all those gentle, pretty colors.
Without batting an eye, he slid her things to the side and made a little space. Then, as if it was the most natural thing in the world, he lined up his own black briefs right next to hers.
Emmy watched, her face burning with a mix of embarrassment and frustration. This couldn’t be real. Was he actually serious about moving in? Was this really happening, just like that?
The idea of living with a man again made her head buzz with anxiety. And this man—he always looked so calm and collected in public, like nothing could ruffle him. But behind closed doors, he was a totally different person. In bed, it was like he turned into a wolf—relentless, wild, always wanting more.
He’d been hard to handle even before they slept together, but now? Emmy could barely think about that wild night two days ago without worrying for her own safety.
While she was lost in her own spiral, James had already walked into her bathroom and started unpacking his toiletries, arranging them next to hers as if he belonged there.
Emmy grabbed the chance to hurry to the door and pick up her takeout. She sat down, ready to eat, when James walked out and immediately zeroed in on her food.
“You haven’t had dinner?” he asked.
She nodded. “What about you? Did you eat?”
“Instant noodles. Saw you weren’t home, so I went back upstairs.”
Emmy paused, chopsticks midair. So he’d already come by, realized she was out, and just left?
James noticed she wasn’t eating junk food, so he didn’t say anything else. He just pulled out the chair across from her and sat down, eyes fixed on her.
Emmy squirmed, feeling awkward under his gaze. Even chewing felt weird.
Finally, she couldn’t take it anymore. “Don’t you have anything else to do?” she blurted. Anything would be better than him staring at her while she ate.
