Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 24

Emmy barely slept a wink all night. Every time she closed her eyes, her mind spun with restless thoughts. At some point, she even had a ridiculous dream—she was pinned to the bed by him and some nameless guy, both grinning like trouble was their middle name. Things in the dream had almost gone way too far…

She jolted awake, sunlight already pouring through the window.

On the way to work, she almost missed the gas pedal when she spotted a familiar figure jogging by the side of the road. The man wore nothing but a plain black T-shirt and cargo pants, running steadily along the sidewalk. Sweat clung to his messy bangs and his shirt hugged every inch of defined muscle. There was something about him—raw, unfiltered masculinity—like he belonged to the morning itself.

Just seeing him sent a rush of heat to Emmy’s face, and suddenly those embarrassing images from last night started replaying in her head. Especially that one part…

A honking horn snapped her out of it.

She yanked the steering wheel to avoid hopping the curb and nearly crashed into the bushes.

Heart racing, she steadied the car and sped away. In her rearview mirror, James’s silhouette grew smaller and smaller, still jogging along the road.

Was he really running to work?

Emmy frowned. Did he not even have a car? And yet, he’d handed her his bank card and let her handle his salary?

A strange pang of guilt twisted in her chest.

He was still her husband on paper, after all—and he had saved her life during that fire. She couldn’t just sit by and watch him struggle like this.

Maybe she’d get him a car, just to return the favor. Nothing more.

But that’s where she’d draw the line. This time around, she wasn’t going to give her whole heart to any man—not ever again.

At Forward Technology, a week of scrambling had finally started to show results.

“Ms. Lincoln, here’s the info for tomorrow night’s business gala.” Her assistant Aidan came in, arms full of folders.

“If we can land the Vista Home partnership at the gala, Forward Technology might actually survive.”

Vista Home was one of the country’s top home brands.

Emmy took the documents, flipping through them. The gala… She remembered it from before.

After work, instead of going straight to her apartment, Emmy headed back to the house. She’d decided to pick out a car for James.

Her eyes landed on three sports cars parked in the back of the garage.

A bright red Ferrari—Dean had given it to her when she got her driver’s license.

A silver Porsche—that was her gift when she made it at Starlight Corporation.

And a jet-black Aston Martin—the one he’d parked outside, trunk stuffed with roses, the night he proposed.

Emmy’s jaw clenched tight.

“Ivy.”

“Yes, Miss?”

Emmy pointed at the cars. “Why are these still here? Didn’t I tell you to get rid of anything that was from him?”
