Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 33

The sweet scent of Emmy’s perfume hit James out of nowhere, and for a second, he went completely still.

From the corner of his eye, he saw the door of a black Mercedes swing open. A couple stepped out together.

James raised an eyebrow and let go of the suitcase handle, sliding his arm around Emmy’s waist instead. His hold wasn’t tight, but it brought her close enough that she was pressed right against his chest.

She could feel the hard lines of his muscles under his shirt. Emmy’s face went hot—so hot she was sure he could feel her blush.

Not far away, Dean was getting luggage out of the trunk when someone slipped their arm through his.

“Dean, doesn’t that look like Emmy over there?”

He followed Evelina’s gaze, took one look, and quickly looked away, face cool and unreadable.

“It’s not her.”

No one knew Emmy like Dean did. He could always tell—her clothes, her little habits. She loved soft pinks and gentle greens, and her suitcases were always cherry blossom pink. She’d never dress in all black, with a suitcase to match, looking so distant and cold.

Besides, Emmy’s heart had always belonged to him. There was no way she’d let another man hold her so close in public.

It was just someone with a similar figure, nothing more.

With that, Dean squeezed Evelina’s hand and led her toward the elevator.

The doors closed.

Emmy immediately stepped away from James’s arms.

“Sorry about that. I thought I saw someone I knew.”

James felt the warmth and the sweet scent disappear. His eyes darkened for a second, but he just nodded.

He handed her the suitcase handle. “Take care, come back soon, okay? I’m sick of living off instant noodles.”

Emmy paused, caught off guard.

So that’s why he’d been so eager to bring her—he wanted her back soon.

She couldn’t help but laugh. He was sneakier than she thought.

Pulling her suitcase behind her, Emmy stepped into the elevator.

James stayed where he was, watching her go. He lifted his hand, still feeling the shape of her waist, and rubbed his palm with his thumb.

Evelina noticed too, surprised. “Emmy? So that really was her in the parking lot?”

Dean stood up and strode over, voice tense. “Who was that guy you were hugging in the parking garage?”

Emmy lifted her gaze, her tone calm and almost lazy. “Does it have anything to do with you?”

Dean’s eyes landed on the two cups of hot milk on the table. He froze.

That habit…

Back then, whenever he traveled for work, Emmy always came along. She’d say the snacks in the lounge were unhealthy, not good for them if they wanted a baby. She’d always bring in two cups of hot milk, insisting he drink one with her.

Seeing the two cups now, he realized—she still hadn’t let go. All those habits, all that love, were woven into her bones.

His frown eased, just a little.

People came and went in the lounge. Maybe, he told himself, someone else could look like her from a distance.

His voice softened. “Where are you going? Why didn’t you tell me?”
