Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 67

Mrs. Johnson gasped, startled out of her wits.

Mr. Johnson instantly moved in front of his wife, blocking Dean with a protective arm as he shoved him away, voice rising in anger.

“Dean, what the hell are you doing? I know you have a reputation, Mr. Sparrow, but you can’t just chase after every woman you see. That’s my wife you’re trying to hit on!”

Evelina rushed over, tripping over her words in her hurry to apologize.

“Mr. Johnson, Mrs. Johnson, I’m really sorry. Mr. Sparrow only acted like that because of me.”

“It’s just…I wanted that ‘Starlight Eternity’ necklace so much. Emmy and I are good friends. Mr. Sparrow probably thought she was bidding on it for me.”

Mr. Johnson laughed, sharp and mocking. “Good friends, huh? Funny, I heard Mr. Sparrow dumped Ms. Lincoln for you. Didn’t think you were his type, but I guess I was wrong.”

His words dripped with disdain. “Too bad for you two. Ms. Lincoln’s a lot smarter than that. No way she’d get mixed up with backstabbers like you. She made the right choice teaming up with us at Vista Corporation—and she gave the necklace to my wife.”

Mrs. Johnson, still clinging to her husband’s arm, shot a cold look at Evelina.

“Oh, so you’re the one who stole someone’s fiancé? And this is the guy who betrayed Ms. Lincoln? Honestly, you’re a perfect match—two of a kind.”

Dean’s face darkened, his whole presence turning icy.

Without a word, he grabbed Evelina’s wrist and stalked away.

“Dean, why didn’t you say anything back there?” Evelina blurted, her voice shaky. “We really love each other. Or… did Emmy say something about us?”

Dean stopped, his eyes burning with anger.

“I’ve been taking projects from Nelson Corporation and Vista Corporation lately. Of course they’re bitter. What really gets me is Emmy—she’s actually teaming up with them just to get back at me, and badmouthing us behind our backs.”

A cruel little smile pulled at his lips.

“But it doesn’t matter. Soon, Vista Corporation will belong to me. Everything she’s doing now is pointless.”

Across town, Abriella was driving Emmy out to a fancy retirement home on the city’s edge.

Once they settled into wicker chairs, Grandma gave her a playful wink.

“Didn’t you promise me wedding candy last time? So, where is it? I’ve been waiting forever for a taste of your happiness.”

Emmy paused, then looked up, her voice calm.

“Grandma, there won’t be any wedding candy. Not for now. He and I broke up.”

Grandma’s smile faded, but she just looked at Emmy with gentle, understanding eyes—no surprise, just a quiet wisdom.

She sighed. “That’s all right, sweetheart.”

“Love is like holding water in your hands. The tighter you squeeze, the faster it slips away. Sometimes, you have to let go a little, to see what you’re really left with.”

Emmy felt something shift in her heart, like a gentle tap waking her from a long dream.
