Kai's POV
I arrived at the Silver Crown compound with all the formal courtesy of a visiting Alpha. The place was a fortress, even more impressive and imposing in person than its reputation suggested. The air itself seemed to hum with old power.
Alpha Richard Sterling met me at the entrance. We exchanged stiff, polite greetings, the air tense between us with the weight of old rivalries and the promise of a new alliance.
"Alpha Kai," he said, his voice a smooth, deep baritone that held a note of triumph. "Welcome to our home."
"Alpha Sterling," I replied, inclining my head just enough to show respect, but not deference.
I was led into the great hall, a massive room designed to showcase the immense wealth and power of the Silver Crown pack. The ceiling soared three stories high, and a wall of glass looked out over the entire mountain range. A fire roared in a hearth big enough to park a car in.
Evelyn, his Luna, and Isabella were there, standing near the grand fireplace. They looked exactly like the perfect Alpha family from the files. Isabella was even more beautiful in person, and she offered a flawless, welcoming smile as I approached.
I gave her a polite, assessing glance. She was exactly as I had pictured. Beautiful, elegant, and utterly... predictable. She smelled of expensive perfume and ambition.
I was already bored. My wolf was irritated, wanting to be out there, hunting for the real mystery, the real source of power.
Then I saw her. She was standing a little way off from the main group, near a large window, half-hidden in the shadows, as if she were trying to be invisible. But she was the most visible thing in the room.
It was the healer from the hospital.
