Valerie's POV

We were all seated in a formal meeting room. A long, polished table of dark wood separated the two families, a battlefield for a negotiation I wanted no part in. The air was thick with tension.

My father formally laid out the terms of the marriage contract, his voice echoing slightly in the quiet, tense room. He spoke of trade alliances, shared territories, and mutual defense pacts, his words painting a picture of a corporate merger, not a marriage.

He ended by saying, "...and so, the alliance will be sealed through the union of the Crimson Fang Alpha and the Silver Crown heir, Valerie."

The weight of that final word, my name, settled on me, heavy and suffocating as a shroud.

Richard and Kai both looked at me, expecting my response. This was the moment for the dutiful, grateful daughter, the rescued Omega, to smile and agree to her gilded cage. To accept the life that had been chosen for her.

I took a slow sip of water from the heavy crystal glass in front of me. The water was cool against my dry throat. I set the glass down on the polished wood with a soft, deliberate click that sounded like a gunshot in the silence.

"I understand," I said calmly, my voice even and clear, betraying none of the turmoil inside me. "You have all planned my life out very thoroughly."

I looked directly at Kai, my gaze challenging, ignoring my parents for the moment. This was between us now.
