Escape from Mr. Whitman (Emma and Theodore) novel Chapter 229

Theodore didn’t even bother to glance at the divorce papers. Just skimming Emma’s brief note, he let out a cold laugh and tossed the stack onto the table with a flick of his wrist.

Cecilia tentatively reached for the documents. Seeing that Theodore made no move to stop her, she grew bolder and picked them up, scanning through the pages at lightning speed before going over each line carefully. Relief washed over her when she realized Emma hadn’t revealed the truth about the volunteer incident from years ago.

But then shock replaced relief. Theodore had put so many properties in Emma’s name—there were even shares in the company! Even if Emma wanted nothing else from the marriage, she’d walk away from this divorce set for life.

“Theo—” Cecilia called to him softly, her voice tentative. “Don’t be sad. Emma… about the divorce…”

She was about to say, *Even if Emma leaves, you still have me*, but Theodore stopped her before she could finish.

“She won’t,” Theodore said firmly. “She’s just throwing a tantrum. It’s not the first time she’s threatened divorce. She’s just angry, that’s all…”

As he spoke, he pulled out his phone and started searching the headlines. Sure enough, he found the news: a major dance academy, in collaboration with several dance companies, was embarking on a month-long European tour.

He exhaled in relief. “Just a month. When she comes back… when she comes back, I need to teach her a lesson! She’s far too spoiled.”

Disappointment clouded Cecilia’s eyes. “Theo, it’s my fault. If I hadn’t asked you to take that island trip with me first, Emma wouldn’t have left. I’m sorry.”

“It’s not your fault,” Theodore replied. “By the way, you must be exhausted from following me around. Why don’t you go back and rest?”

“I’m not tired,” Cecilia shook her head. “How could I leave you alone at a time like this? Let me stay with you, Theo.”

Emma had gone to bed late the night before, but still woke up early, practically buzzing with energy as if someone had wound her up.

Tonight was the dance company’s rehearsal.

There was so much to do during the day!

They had to set up the stage, prepare costumes, and handle all sorts of behind-the-scenes logistics.

Sebastian and Serena both insisted she come down to the lounge.

Curious, Emma invited Ms. Brown to join them.

“I’ll pass,” Ms. Brown said with a warm smile. “They already asked me, but I’m not used to eating late. You young folks go ahead!”

So Emma took the elevator down. Serena was waiting in the lobby, grabbed her hand, and whispered, “Come on, everyone’s in Sebastian’s room!”

When they stepped inside, Emma was greeted by a roomful of people and a table piled high with instant noodles, fruit, and ready-made meals.

“Wow, look at you—sneaking snacks in your rooms!” Emma teased, grinning.

Serena laughed, looping her arm through Emma’s. “Hey, Ms. Brown knows all about it! We’re not sneaking—we have full permission!”
