Escape from Mr. Whitman (Emma and Theodore) novel Chapter 233

The rehearsal studio was really just a place to practice dance, not somewhere suited for physical therapy. The biggest issue was the lack of proper equipment.

Emma studied the rehab video, trying to figure out how to adapt each exercise for her current situation and the space she had.

Back at the Wellness Center, she’d had a nurse to help her. Here, without support, she felt like she was toppling over every other minute.

It didn’t take long before she was drenched in sweat and aching all over.

“Emma!”

After she fell yet again, a gentle female voice called out behind her. At the same moment, a pair of steady hands caught her from behind—just like back in her Dance Academy days.

“Ms. Brown…” Emma was a little nervous. Sebastian had come in with her, so she nodded a greeting to him as well.

She wanted to recover. She really did. But she didn’t want anyone else to know, not if it meant risking their hopes along with hers. If she failed, wouldn’t she just be letting everyone down?

Ms. Brown shook her head, clearly not impressed.

Emma thought maybe Ms. Brown had given up on her too. The disappointment stung, but honestly, she hadn’t dared to hope much in the first place, so it didn’t hurt too badly.

Still, she forced a smile, feeling awkward.

“Silly girl, how can you do this without any support? Are you trying to turn yourself into a pretzel?” Ms. Brown gave her a playful scolding. “There are so many people in our touring troupe, not to mention the staff and teachers. Why didn’t you ask for help? Too shy to call for anyone, and too embarrassed to ask me? We’re even sharing a room!”

“Yeah, it’s from the Wellness Center.” Emma forwarded the video to him.

Emma never expected Sebastian to show up the next day with dark circles under his eyes, holding his phone and brimming with ideas for improving her physical therapy routine.

“Sorry, Emma, I only had time to tweak a few of the exercises last night,” he said, demonstrating the changes and sending her a video of himself as a guide. “Don’t worry—I kept our current situation in mind and simplified things. I even got some advice from the old gentleman who works with us. He was happy to help, and it works just as well!”

Emma was amazed. “Thank you so much! I hope it wasn’t too much trouble for him.”

Sebastian grinned. “Not at all! He’s good friends with my family, and he’s curious to see how the changes work out. In a way, you’re our little experiment.”

Emma laughed too. This was exactly the kind of experiment she didn’t mind being part of.
