Escape from Mr. Whitman (Emma and Theodore) novel Chapter 346

Emma Bennett left a comment under Renee Chance’s latest post: *What a wonderful night.*

As soon as she hit send, she headed downstairs to find her brother. She needed to know—what exactly had Sebastian Remington said to him?

She caught Larson Bennett in the living room just as he came in.

With a knowing smile, Larson motioned to the couch. “I figured you’d want to ask. Sit down.”

Emma slid onto the sofa, the soft soles of her slippers barely making a sound. As she settled in, Larson’s gaze fell to her ankle.

“What is it, Lars?” She tensed instinctively, pulling her foot back a little. After five years, she’d learned to hide the old injury and still hated anyone staring at it. Even now, with the worst behind her, the reflex to withdraw remained.

But Larson knelt down in front of her, gently lifting her injured foot.

“Lars…” Emma frowned, unsure what he was doing.

“Here?” he asked, pressing lightly against the spot that had ended her dancing career.

She nodded.

He slipped her slipper back on and sat beside her. “Remington was just here, trying a little too hard to be charming. Do you know what’s going through his head?”

Emma hadn’t paid much attention at the time, but now that he mentioned it, something about Sebastian’s demeanor seemed… off.

She looked at her brother, eyebrows knit.

“Emmie.” Larson’s voice softened, his expression shifting to the kind of gentle seriousness only an older sibling could muster. “We just pulled ourselves out of a bad place. Don’t rush things. The only one who can truly heal you is yourself—not some new relationship. Life’s long. We’ll take it slow, okay?”

So that’s what he meant…

“Alright, Lars. I get it.” She smiled. She didn’t have any feelings for Sebastian, nor was she planning on diving into anything new.
