“I even have the right to suspect you–maybe you’re deliberately trying to get at state secrets, maybe even trying to…” The words hung unfinished.
She didn’t finish the sentence.
But it was obvious to everyone what she was hinting at.
Sienna curled her lips into a cold, mocking smile, her gaze sharp on Amanda. “And let’s not forget your mentor–Professor Sharp’s right–hand man, someone who should know the institute rules better than anyone. He went ahead and shared confidential information with you without any permission.”
“It doesn’t matter how much or what he gave you, that kind of behavior is already a serious breach of confidentiality–and might even count as a criminal offense,” Sienna continued..
“I have to wonder now if he’s leaked secrets to anyone else too,” she added.
Sienna curled her lips into a taunting smile, her tone unhurried yet every word struck Amanda deeper, draining the color from her face and piling panic on panic.
Amanda’s lips quivered uncontrollably–she couldn’t force out a single word. All she could feel was overwhelming panic and dread.
Then Sienna whipped out her phone and made a show of dialing. “Want me to call Professor Sharp and have the authorities investigate your ever–so–helpful senior?”
Amanda had never been the type to handle pressure well.
When she saw Sienna about to make that call, a wave of panic gripped her; she couldn’t stop her body from trembling.
Every muscle in her body quaked with fear.
It wasn’t until this moment that the true seriousness of the situation finally sank in.
If Patrick found out and the authorities stepped in, her senior’s future would be completely ruined.
And as the one poking around for “secrets,” she’d be dragged into the mess too.
Plus, Patrick wouldn’t take her in as a student, not in a million years.
If she couldn’t cross that threshold and become his student, then everything she’d worked for would just go up in smoke.
She’d gone all out, loudly broadcasting to everyone that becoming Professor Sharp’s student was practically guaranteed.
If she failed to make it happen, she’d be utterly humiliated—the laughingstock of the entire socialite scene.

Amanda shot to her feet, too scared to say another word. She shoved her chair away, buried her face in her hands, and ran out sobbing.
It was the very first time Amanda had ever broken down like this in front of everyone from the Cooper family.
It was clear–she was totally falling apart.
Pansy watched as Amanda bolted out, tears streaming, and for a moment she thought about saying something -but in the end, she just sighed, tired and defeated.
Sienna lazily turned her head, picked up her fork, and placed a bite of food on Pansy’s plate. “Mom, don’t worry. Just keep eating. This spicy and tangy goose gizzard you cooked is seriously delicious!”
When Sienna started serving Pansy some food, the three men, who’d all looked pretty grim just seconds ago, immediately turned their gazes away from where Amanda had stormed out, fixing their eyes squarely on Sienna.
They stared at her with eager, almost puppy–dog eyes, practically begging for her to serve them a bite too.
Sienna just gave them a look, completely at a loss for words.
Seriously, it’s not like she hadn’t done this before.
She’d already loaded up their plates half a dozen times tonight as it was.
Sienna chuckled quietly, then went down the line and used her fork to serve each of the three guys some food.
When she reached Rolf’s bowl, he suddenly spoke up in a deep, serious voice. “Sienna, you’re the true heiress of the Cooper family. You’re my own granddaughter, the little princess we thought we’d lost forever. You spent twenty years out there on your own, and now that you’re finally back, we’re going to spoil you and make it up to you.
“Don’t worry about what Amanda thinks, and don’t ever compromise yourself just to make things easier for us. If anything in this family ever makes you uncomfortable, just say the word–Grandpa will take care of it,” Rolf said firmly.
‘Amanda really got herself in a twist now. She’s been enjoying the kind of privileged life that should’ve belonged to Sienna–she ought to be thankful every single day! Rolf thought. “The only reason Amanda’s still here with the Cooper family is because Sienna gave her the okay!’
‘If Amanda keeps pulling her little stunts and making Sienna feel even the slightest bit upset, then it’s about time she packed her bags and got kicked out of this house.‘ Rolf decided.
Sienna’s heart warmed as she listened.
She curved her lips into a gentle smile. “Thanks, Grandpa.”

Amanda ran back to her room, tears streaming down her face. She purposely left the door cracked open, secretly wishing someone might come by to check on her, maybe offer some comfort.
But she waited and waited.
Not a single person came to comfort her.
“That hick Sienna must’ve done something sneaky–probably made sure nobody would come up here and try to comfort me!‘ Amanda fumed.
And now even Beatriz isn’t around, so there’s literally no one left who’ll pamper me, Amanda thought bitterly.
The more Amanda dwelled on it, the more it tore her up inside–until she couldn’t hold it back anymore and started bawling her eyes out.
‘It’s all Sienna’s fault!‘ Amanda thought, resentment burning in her chest.
‘She took everyone in my family from me! And now she’s even stolen Mason from me!‘ Amanda fumed, jealousy and bitterness swirling inside her.
‘For all these years, no matter how sweet I was to Mason,‘ Amanda thought, ‘he always just gave me the cold shoulder. The only reason he ever even bothered to talk to me was out of respect for our grandpas–and then, he barely said a couple words, and always so cold!‘
‘And gifts?‘ she sniffled, ‘Forget about it. I was never even on his list.‘
‘But why?‘ Amanda cried inside, her jealousy burning hotter than ever.
‘It’s only been a few days—just a few days! How did everything change so fast?‘ She couldn’t help but stew in her bitterness.
And now Mason is already staying with Sienna, buying her gifts like she’s the only one that matters!‘ Amanda fumed, her mind spinning with anger and envy.
Just thinking about how that stupid gift Mason gave Sienna was the reason Beatriz got sent packing to the garden–leaving her with one less ally–made Amanda’s blood boil.
Amanda was fuming.
Suddenly, Amanda shot up in bed, her mind racing,
‘That gift box… Amanda’s thoughts spun as she stared at it.
‘Eden was the one who brought it upstairs, Amanda recalled, her chest tightening with jealousy.
‘Everyone’s so wrapped up in Sienna right now, it’s like I don’t even exist to them,‘ Amanda fumed.
‘I need to see for myself what Mason bought for Sienna,‘ Amanda thought, not willing to let her jealousy get the best of her this time.

With that, she hopped out of bed right away, sneaking over toward Sienna’s room, making sure nobody noticed her peeking around every corner.
From the family dining room, Amanda could just barely hear Rolf’s cheerful laughter echoing through the house, and it made her feel even more like an outsider.
Amanda clenched her fingers so tight it hurt, as if hoping the pain would drown out those sounds.
‘Of course. Why would anyone care what I’m going through?‘ she thought to herself, bitterly.
‘Everyone’s still all about Sienna,‘ Amanda seethed, jealousy flaring hotter with every passing second.
Her heart burned with envy, and every burst of laughter from downstairs felt like a fresh jab, stabbing at her
