Chapter 4
The list could be read in one glance from top to bottom. Sienna had stayed with the Fairbank family for four years, and every bit of her food, clothes, and living expenses was written on that single sheet of paper.
If people outside saw this, they would think the Fairbank family had gone broke, treating their former daughter so cheaply.
Melvin’s eyes shifted to the bank card. “Go check how much is on it.”
The butler quickly took the card and list downstairs to verify.
Hazel wanted to argue, but when she saw how dark Melvin’s face looked, she pressed her lips together.
She muttered under her breath, annoyed, “You can’t seriously be taking that list at face value. Anyone can tell it’s just that brat trying to play hard to get. She wants us to think we treated her unfairly. She wants to make us feel guilty and regret it.”
She didn’t believe for a second that Sienna’s living expenses over four years in the Fairbank family only came to 200 thousand dollars.
Even the servants at their house spent more than that in four years. Hazel had seen this kind of trick plenty of times before.
Inside the SUV, the buzz-cut man, Titan, sat stiff and straight behind the wheel. He kept glancing at Sienna in the rearview mirror as she rested with her eyes closed.
“Boss, since you’ve already walked away from the Fairbank family, why don’t we head straight back to Hollow Dreadlands?” His voice carried a trace of excitement. “Everyone is waiting for you.”
Sienna lifted her eyelids slightly, her voice flat. “For now-”
Before she could finish, her phone rang. The caller ID showed an unfamiliar number from Orlathis City.
She picked up. A middle-aged man’s anxious voice came through. “Miss Cooper, I’m Eden, the butler Mr. Cooper sent to pick you up. I’m terribly sorry-I got into a car accident on the way to the Fairbank family. I’m in the ER at Orlathis Hospital right now.”
Sienna’s eyes narrowed. Eden’s respectful tone caught her attention. The Fairbank family had dug into her background before-her family was supposed to be from the slums of Orlathis City. A poor family like that shouldn’t have a butler.
“Miss Cooper, forgive me for keeping you waiting,” Eden said again, guilt in his voice.
Sienna’s tone stayed flat. “Give me the address. I’ll come myself.”
Eden apologized once more and had just begun giving her directions when sudden shouts rang out on his end.
“Family of bed one! Where’s the family of bed one? The patient’s blood pressure is dropping fast. Heart rate climbing. Suspected internal bleeding-she needs emergency surgery!”
Eden’s voice broke in. “Doctor, here! What’s happening with bed one?”
The doctor’s tone was grim. “The patient is in critical condition. CT shows bleeding near a major vessel. She needs surgery immediately.”
Eden’s voice spiked. “Then do it! Save her, no matter the cost!”
