Chapter 72
Those words were meant to comfort Amanda, to guide her, to help her recognize Mason’s attitude and let go
of her obsession.
After all, they were all family. They would see each other every day.
If she kept being stubborn, kept drilling into that dead end, she would only make herself look worse in the future.
But when those words fell into Amanda’s ears, they were like pouring oil onto fire.
She thought, ‘Give up on Mason? Why should I? It’s clearly Sienna, that country bumpkin, who stole him away! Future brother-in-law? I will never admit that! They are being biased!’
They just wanted to curry favor with Sienna, force her to give up on Mason, and force her to abandon the only hope she had of marrying into a top-tier family.
They just wanted her to hand Mason over on a silver platter.
In their hearts and eyes, they only had Sienna. Her own twenty years of companionship and effort meant nothing at all compared to Sienna.
Amanda clenched her fists tightly, lowering her head to prevent her family from seeing the resentment and hatred almost erupting from her eyes.
The meticulously painted nails had almost imprinted large patches of red marks on her palms.
She bit her lower lip tightly, a sweet, metallic, rusty smell churning in her nose.
She would never let Sienna succeed. Mason was hers. Everything of the Cooper family would be hers. Sienna could never take it away.

The black Maybach shuttled through the night.
Sienna leaned lazily against the seat, her gaze lowered, eyes fixed on the research institute’s encrypted core data spread open across her lap.
Her expression was focused, her long lashes casting faint shadows under her eyes.
Mason rested one hand on the steering wheel, his posture lazy and unrestrained, his gaze occasionally drifting toward the girl sitting beside him.
The warm layers of light and shadow only made her stunning, sharp-featured beauty appear colder and even more untouchable.
He smiled, and his low, husky voice sounded particularly enticing in the narrow, quiet space. “Sienna, would you say I just passed the preliminary test with your future in-laws?”

Sienna didn’t even look up, her fingers flipping through the papers, her voice casual. “You’re overthinking. They’re just respecting my opinion, that’s all.”
Mason suddenly let out a soft laugh, low and rough, magnetic enough to make one’s eardrums itch. “Then… Sienna, what’s your opinion?”
Sienna’s fingers paused ever so slightly on the page.
For some reason, whenever Mason called her name like that, it always felt like he was teasing her.
She said, “I have no thoughts.”
“Could it be…” His voice suddenly dropped, the corner of his eyes lifting with a wicked, flirtatious curve. “You don’t have any feelings after seeing my face?”
Sienna’s fingertip stopped completely above the data this time.
At last, she raised her lashes slightly, her cool, clear gaze falling on Mason’s face.
The fleeting lights outside the car window outlined his overly perfect features, flickering in and out of shadow, making him look almost like an enchantment come to life.
Those eyes, in the shifting light of night, held an unhidden, predatory kind of charm.
“Your face…” Sienna smiled faintly, though her tone barely shifted. “It is indeed attractive for some people.”
Mason raised his eyebrows, and the smile in his eyes deepened, like a pool of spring water rippling.
Sienna added, “But I have no intention of dating right now.”
“As long as my face attracts you, then there’s a chance.” Mason’s husky voice drew out the words, carrying an unmistakable, bewitching confidence. “With a chance… I have all the patience in the world to turn those thoughts into the thought of dating me.”
Sienna stared steadily at his arrogant face and at the determined look in his eyes.
She didn’t say anything, just calmly withdrew her gaze and looked back at the data in her hand.
It was as if the little ripple just now was just an illusion.
Mason knew that at this time, a hint was enough.
He didn’t press further, smoothly shifting the topic. “By the way, Sophie woke up.”
Sienna thought for a moment before remembering.
He meant his younger sister, the one who had been accidentally scratched by Eden, then triggered into a heart attack and hospitalized, that poor little thing.
She turned her head toward him. “How is her recovery?”

“With your help, she’s fine.” Mason smiled lazily. “But after she woke up, she found out you saved her again, and she really wants to thank you personally.”
He added, “In the Brown family, we have a rule. A life-saving grace must be repaid in full.”
Sienna thought of that bright-eyed, lively girl and nodded. “Alright.”
“In that case, I’ll pick you up at your place tomorrow morning.” Mason’s reply was immediate.
Sienna shot him a glance, as if to say, “You’re not even hiding your scheming anymore.”
But, she only gave a light “Okay” in the end.
Mason smiled, and the smile that spread in his eyes was almost overflowing.
