Tyler frowned slightly, puzzled. What was she trying to pull now?
And since when did she have a child?
He was just about to call Emilia when his phone buzzed in his hand.
Vivienne.
He hesitated, then tapped to answer.
"Tyler." Vivienne's voice came through, soft and tentative, fragile enough to tug at his heart. "Um... have you checked the news online today?"
"Are you talking about Emilia?" Tyler asked directly.
"Yeah." Vivienne paused, uncertainty in her tone. "Tyler, is that child... yours and hers?"
Tyler considered it. In the past seven years, he and Emilia had barely spent any time apart. If she'd had a child, he would have known.
He shook his head, even though she couldn't see him. "I don't know, but I don't think so."
"Tyler, you don't have to worry about hurting me," Vivienne said, her voice thick with emotion. "You two were together for so long. If you had a child, I'd understand. I... I'm okay with it, really, and..."
She trailed off, leaving a heavy silence between them.
Half a minute passed before Vivienne spoke again. "It's fine. Forget it."
Tyler gazed out the floor-to-ceiling window, watching the clouds drift by. "I'll find out the truth."
But this time, Vivienne didn't respond the way she usually did.
"Tyler, I don't want to hurt her," she said quietly. "I'm not going to be around much longer. I don't want much anymore. I just... I just want you to love me."
"But if being with me makes her unhappy, Tyler, then go back to her."
"I'll be fine."
Her voice broke, trembling with emotion.
But over at the Vivian Floral Atelier, there was nothing but a bright smile on her face.
Sometimes, letting go brings you closer than holding on ever could.
In the hospital, Sophia's face was full of compassion.
Emilia sat across from her, her body wracked with symptoms, but her expression was blank, tears slipping silently down her cheeks.
"What am I supposed to do?" Emilia whispered. "I'm so sad."
"Dr. Raine, is there anything you can give me—something that'll make the pain stop?"
Sophia's heart ached for her.
It had only been a couple of weeks since Emilia's last visit, but her condition had gotten so much worse.
"These things take time," Sophia said gently. "Let's start with an IV today, okay?"
Today's episode was acute; if things didn't improve, they might have to consider MECT.
But for that, she'd need a family member by her side.
From what Sophia knew, there were only two people Emilia could call: her mother, and her husband—Tyler.
