The man just stared at him in disbelief when he asked.
The nurse chimed in, "You really don't know when your own wife is being discharged?"
Tyler pressed his lips into a thin line and said nothing. He simply turned and walked away.
Back in his car, Tyler dialed Emilia's number again.
No answer.
He tried Joyce next.
This time, Joyce picked up.
"What do you want?" her voice came through, flat and impatient.
"Where's Emilia?" Tyler cut straight to the point.
Joyce shot right back, "Shouldn't you know where your own wife is? Why are you asking me? Are you kidding?"
Tyler's brow furrowed.
"Joyce, I'm being serious," he said tightly. "What's going on with Emilia and that kid who's always with her?"
Of course Joyce knew, but she wasn't about to tell him.
"Why don't you ask her yourself? Why call me?" she snapped. "Last time I tried to reach out, you accused me of scheming with Emily against you."
"So don't bother calling me again. I don't want to end up being blamed for something I didn't do."
With that, Joyce hung up.
Tyler listened to the dead line, anger rising like a tide inside him.
He slammed his fist against the steering wheel.
The Bentley's horn blared, echoing his frustration.
Emilia.
She was growing bolder by the day.
It used to be just little games between them, but now there was a child in the picture.
She knew full well how much he loved kids.
So many times, when they'd been wrapped up together, he'd stroked her stomach and begged her to give him a child. But…
He drew in a slow, shaky breath, trying to steady himself, then dialed Emilia's number once more.
Tyler's grandfather was calling.
She hesitated for a moment before finally answering.
But once the call connected, she realized she didn't know what to call him. After marrying Tyler, she'd always followed his lead and called him Grandpa, but now, with their relationship on ice, it felt wrong.
Uncertain, she remained silent.
Parker didn't speak either. Three seconds passed, heavy with unspoken words, before he finally let out a long, weary sigh.
"Emily, could you come by the house tonight?" Parker's voice was gentle. "Even if you're upset with Tyler, you should at least check in on this old man."
Emilia gripped her phone a little tighter, then nodded, even though he couldn't see. "Alright," she said quietly.
She knew she needed to go back.
There were things that needed to be settled.
Time slipped away, and night fell.
She parked her car and stepped out.
After so many days, Emilia once again stood in front of Erickson Manor.
