Farewell to Love: The CEO's Desperate Chase novel Chapter 135

"That bastard is to blame for all this!" Parker shouted, raising his cane to strike Tyler.

Tyler didn't dodge. He just stood there, stiff and unmoving.

A chilly breeze drifted off the lake, making the air feel even colder.

Emilia instinctively drew her arms around herself.

Tyler noticed, his brow furrowing slightly as he glanced over at her.

Is she cold?

For reasons he couldn't quite name, an odd sense of unease crept over him—like something important had happened behind his back.

"I could hear you two yelling from halfway across the grounds!" Parker bellowed, swinging his cane and landing a blow on Tyler's arm.

"Tyler, do you have any idea how many shameful things you've done lately? And now you have the nerve to argue with Emily out here?"

"I honestly don't know how I ended up with a grandson like you!"

"If your parents weren't off overseas, and if I weren't in such poor health, you'd see how quickly I'd set you straight!"

By the time he finished his tirade, Parker was out of breath. He'd never fully recovered his health after last year—he'd even insisted on Tyler marrying Emilia in hopes of bringing some good fortune to the family. Now, he looked frailer than ever.

"All you do is chase after that homewrecker, dragging the Erickson family's name through the mud!"

"Do you even remember a single word of the vows you made on your knees to Emily when you brought her home?"

"After all you've done, do you really not feel the slightest bit of shame?"

He broke off, coughing violently. "Cough, cough…"

"Grandpa!"

Both Tyler and Emilia rushed toward him, but Parker shoved Tyler aside with surprising strength.

Emilia reached out, gently rubbing Parker's back, trying to help him catch his breath.

She could always tell who genuinely cared for her.

"We're just two old people now—there's little we can do."

"But before you make these decisions, can you at least think about Emily?"

"Emily is your wife. You were the one who swore you loved her. You insisted on marrying her."

"Have you not heard the awful things people are saying out there? Don't you care how this makes Emily feel?"

Tyler kept his head down, lips pressed tightly together.

The matriarch looked at him for a long moment, her disappointment deepening. At last, she said coldly, "I was going to have dinner with both of you, but now you can go on without me."

She squeezed Emilia's hand, her gaze at Tyler full of frustration and regret.

Parker had scolded and punished him, but now there was nothing left to do.

"Don't leave the estate tonight. Your grandfather has something more to discuss with you later."

She paused, eyes fixed sternly on Tyler. "And you're both staying here tonight. Understood?"
