“Tyler, even now, you still have no idea what you’ve truly lost.”
“Just wait.”
“When you finally realize what you’ve done, I doubt you’ll have any regrets left—because you’ll see that every bit of this, you brought on yourself.”
With those words, Theodore turned away without sparing Tyler another glance and headed back to his car.
“I’ll give you a ride home,” he said to Emilia, offering her a gentle smile.
The Bentley’s engine purred to life, and in seconds, it melted into the darkness, leaving Tyler standing in the cold night.
The Glenn family’s men didn’t let go of Tyler until long after the car had vanished.
He immediately moved to chase after them, but they stepped in front of him a second time.
“Mr. Erickson, it’s no use. Our young master has already arranged for people to watch every place Miss Dennis might go. If you show up like this, you’ll just be stopped.”
“Mr. Erickson, please—take a moment to calm yourself.”
The words drifted to him from the side, but Tyler couldn’t calm down. He started his own car and sped away, anger and helplessness burning in his chest.
…
Meanwhile, the Bentley soared down the road, headlights carving twin tunnels through the night.
Neither Emilia nor Theodore spoke; a heavy silence filled the cabin, broken only when a red light finally forced Theodore to stop.
The dim glow of the dashboard cast shadows across his face as he looked sideways at her. He parted his lips, searching for something to say, but the words wouldn’t come.
He could still feel the ghost of her kiss on his lips—a soft, trembling warmth that made his heart race.
His gaze drifted to her wrist, the one Tyler had gripped so tightly. Even now, the skin was flushed and red.
Guilt twisted inside him. She’d insisted on handling things herself, so he’d stepped back, assuming that Tyler, at the very least, wouldn’t hurt her. He’d been wrong.
He reached across and gently took her wrist, his fingers tender as he massaged the lingering mark.
Emilia looked at him, then let out a quiet sigh.
She’d just opened her mouth to speak when the traffic light turned green. Theodore cupped her face in his hands, his voice low. “I know you have something to say. Let’s wait until we get to your place, all right?”
A car behind them honked impatiently.
